Farewell to Love: The CEO's Desperate Chase novel Chapter 438

Emilia stared blankly at the ring, her thoughts swirling.

She hadn’t noticed Theodore approach, but suddenly he was right behind her.

“Do you like it?” His voice was gentle, close to her ear.

She glanced up at him, catching the reflection of herself in his eyes—she was all he could see.

He picked up the ring, then extended his other hand, palm open, waiting for her to place her hand in his.

“Let me take care of you, will you?” he asked, and his words, caught by a hovering drone, echoed through the bright air.

Then, Theodore went down on one knee, looking up at her.

“Emily, will you be my fiancée?” His voice was steady, clear.

He’d considered asking her to marry him outright, but something held him back—he wanted the real proposal to be grander, more memorable. An engagement, though, felt right for now. It was a step forward, more than just dating, but still not quite marriage. Their situation was complicated, and they both knew an engagement didn’t guarantee a wedding. That had always been their understanding.

But this—this was a promise, a declaration that what they had was more than a fleeting romance.

And Theodore meant every word. He looked up at Emilia, her eyes shining with unshed tears, cheeks tinged pink.

He wanted nothing more than to care for her, to shield her from every sadness, to stand by her side.

“Emily!” Across the square, Tyler’s desperate shout rang out.

But she didn’t look at him. Emilia’s gaze was fixed on Theodore, her lashes lowered, heart pounding in her chest.

“Are you sure?” she asked, her voice trembling, eyes growing wet.

“I’ve been sure for years,” he replied softly.

They locked eyes, and Emilia was suddenly transported back—to the day on the hot air balloon, to the studio where he’d spoken so openly, shown her so much.

She remembered, too, that day after leaving Glenn Enterprises, when she’d played with the cat in her arms and he’d whispered, “Emily, don’t ever worry about being a burden. Don’t worry about making my life harder. With me, you can always be yourself.”

And he’d meant it. Everything he’d done since, every little gesture, was for her.

He’d once told her he could separate gratitude from love, that the moment he fell for her had nothing to do with the kindness she’d shown him as a boy.
