“The road only goes forward, and so should your life.”
“Don’t make the same mistakes as before—don’t break the hearts of those you love.”
Those were her final words of advice. Beyond that, there was nothing left for them to say.
Tyler looked as if he wanted to speak, but members of The Glenn Group stepped in and blocked his path.
Emilia smiled softly, turning to meet Theodore’s gaze. Their fingers intertwined, and together they walked down another path, hand in hand.
All Tyler could do was watch as their silhouettes disappeared, hands still tightly clasped.
Sunlight glinted off the engagement ring on Emilia’s finger, the reflection so bright it stung his eyes.
Suddenly, a thought struck him—
He’d never actually proposed to her.
There had been no carefully planned ring, no ceremony, no flowers, not even that traditional moment on one knee. In fact…
He’d never even asked her if she wanted to marry him.
Back then, he’d simply bought a pair of rings at a jewelry store in the mall, slipped one onto her finger, and called it a proposal.
By now, Emilia and Theodore had already left the sunflower field. The Glenn Group’s people no longer stood in Tyler’s way.
Alone, Tyler lingered near a giant picture frame set up nearby.
He reached out and gently touched Emilia’s smiling face in the photo.
She looked so happy—happier than he’d seen her in a long, long time.
His gaze drifted down to another photograph: a snapshot by the lakeshore under a blue rain, taken years ago in Zephyria.
So that’s when you first set your sights on her, huh? Tyler thought to himself.
A bitter laugh slipped out.
“Theodore, you really have been planning this from the start.”
Emilia’s words echoed in his mind—The road only goes forward, and so should your life. Don’t make the same mistakes as before—don’t break the hearts of those you love.
The sun was shining, but all Tyler could feel was the downpour inside his chest.
But he still loved her. He’d always loved her. How was he supposed to… move on?
