Jensen was genuinely starting to panic.
He'd witnessed the whole thing—Eugene had once been the purchasing director at the company, and after that incident, look where he'd ended up.
Head of procurement was a cushy job by any standard.
But this was the Erickson Group's procurement director we were talking about—an especially sweet deal.
The thought made Jensen speak up. "Mr. Erickson, should we think about adding more security?"
"And what about Miss Vivienne? Should we warn her too?"
Tyler rubbed his temples and nodded, signaling for Jensen to take care of it.
Eugene.
A cold, murderous glint flickered in Tyler's eyes.
He, Tyler, would never let that man get away with what he'd done.
...
Hospital.
Emilia had washed off her makeup and was lying back in bed.
Joyce had managed to sneak in for a visit.
"Emily, you were absolutely incredible!" Joyce grinned, clutching Emilia's arm. "The stage was on fire tonight!"
"Was it really that amazing?" Emilia looked at Joyce, amused by her theatrics. "I think you're seeing me through rose-colored glasses, bestie."
"No way!" Joyce protested, snuggling closer.
"We grew up together—I know exactly what you're capable of."
"And I didn't watch some chopped-up version online either. I had a friend working backstage livestream it to me. Too bad the production crew didn't bother recording it, though. I hope she managed to save the video."
The more Joyce talked, the more animated she became.
"I was still running wild behind my brother's back when you were already practicing piano for hours on end. Now you can play practically every instrument you pick up!"
"And that's just your hobby. Mr. Dennis always raised you as his future successor. Back then..."
Her mother had once been a captivating beauty, the kind who stunned all of Alden City's high society with a single dance.
But over the years…
She'd grown tired. She'd grown older.
She wanted someone to lean on.
And so she'd married Emilia's stepfather.
"Emily…" Joyce's soft, worried voice broke the silence.
"We haven't talked much lately," Emilia said, pretending to be absorbed in the TV. "Last time we met, I gave her some money. I heard she opened a little shop. She's… probably doing fine."
Deep down, Emilia knew things between her and her mother had grown painfully complicated.
Especially after everything that had happened.
Joyce let out a quiet sigh. "Maybe it's for the best, just keeping your distance."
"Yeah," Emilia replied softly.
