Farewell to Love: The CEO's Desperate Chase novel Chapter 69

"Maybe."

Emilia's gaze lingered on the television, where the news anchor was outlining the latest weather report.

"We have a live update—heavy rain is expected again tonight. Please remember your umbrellas and take proper precautions before heading out…"

Beside her, Joyce grumbled about how miserable her commute home would be in this downpour.

With a grin, Emilia offered, "How about you take half my bed tonight? Just stay over—you don't have to go back in this weather."

They'd been sharing beds since they were kids; it was second nature.

Joyce shot her a look. "No thanks. If I squish your injuries, someone's bound to come after me."

Emilia laughed softly, letting the comment slide.

She knew exactly who Joyce meant—Felix.

Last time, Joyce had joked about "claiming" Felix as compensation, but Emilia had no patience for that kind of banter right now. There was too much on her plate.

Six days ago, when she and Tyler went to city hall to finalize their paperwork, she'd handed him the asset division agreement—one she'd conveniently left a loophole in.

It was simple enough on the surface: whatever was under her name, she'd keep and take with her.

Tyler had always planned to get back together after six months, and she'd deliberately provoked him that day, so he'd barely glanced at the contract.

He hadn't noticed that, buried among the clearly listed items, was a catch-all: "other assets formerly registered under Emilia's name."

That included things that once belonged to the Dennis family—the ones later absorbed by the Erickson Group.

Her father's old division—she was determined to reclaim it, even if the personnel had changed over the years.

She knew the vague wording could work in her favor if Tyler was willing to let go. But if he decided to fight, it would come down to negotiation.

She'd always managed that division herself, and it wasn't closely tied to the Erickson Group, so she was confident she could buy it back for a fair price.

And if not, she still had the contract—she could take the disputed assets to court. Even if she couldn't win it all, she could at least get a portion back.

She knew Christian had already gone all in.

His two older brothers had been entrenched in the Donovan Group for years before he even came of age; their influence was deeply rooted. Christian, the youngest, was always at a disadvantage, constantly fighting an uphill battle.

Now, with Alexander Donovan aging and falling ill more frequently, the rivalry among the three sons had reached a boiling point.

If Christian and Emilia could soar together this time, maybe they could finally break the deadlock.

Maybe Christian could carve out a bigger share of the Donovan Group for himself.

Lost in thought, Emilia glanced over at Joyce, who was still flicking through channels, unable to settle on anything.

"Joyce," she said, "that friend of yours who does the live broadcasts—can you get in touch with her for me?"

Joyce, still aimlessly surfing, barely looked up. "Sure, but why? What do you need her for?"

Eyes fixed on the TV, Emilia replied quietly, "I want to get a copy of her recording."
