Farewell to Love: The CEO's Desperate Chase novel Chapter 70

Joyce set down the remote and shot Emilia a curious look. "Why not just ask Christian directly? I remember Donovan Entertainment is one of the main sponsors, right?"

Emilia had already brought it up to Christian on the way back to the hospital. But mentioning it had set Christian off.

"I did go to them," Christian said from the driver's seat, his tone edged with frustration. "I tore into them, but apparently, word got around that Tyler's people had issued a warning—and Wyatt's been stirring the pot behind the scenes."

"That's ridiculous!"

Christian slammed his fist against the steering wheel. "Wyatt even went to the old man and told him I'm keeping a mistress! Said I'm letting a woman come between Donovan Group and Tyler, just to pick a fight. I got chewed out because of it."

In other words, Wyatt had gotten himself mixed up in this, too.

He was setting traps for Christian at every turn, leaving Christian to handle things in secret or spring surprise attacks; otherwise, Wyatt would find any excuse to make trouble.

After dropping Emilia off at the hospital, Christian had left, but he'd told her not to worry. These setbacks were temporary. Donovan Entertainment was still in his hands—he wouldn't let anyone else overreach, and he'd find a way to set things right.

It would just take some time.

So now, knowing someone might have gotten hold of the raw footage, Emilia was eager to get her hands on it as soon as possible. She shared her thoughts with Joyce, who immediately set about making contact.

Time slipped by quickly.

Before she knew it, morning had come.

The air after last night's thunderstorm was fresh and clean, carrying the scent of grass and earth. The rain had stopped. Joyce had dropped off breakfast before hurrying off to work.

When the door to Emilia's hospital room swung open again, she thought Joyce had returned with the footage. But when she looked up, it was the police.

Detective Cynthia came in, accompanied by a male officer—probably her partner.

"Sorry to disturb you," Cynthia said.

Her first thought was her divorce agreement with Tyler.

If that was the trigger, only two people came to mind: Tyler and Vivienne.

Then there was the media circus.

Lately, the countdown to Vivienne's supposed death had become headline news, and as Tyler's ex-wife, Emilia's past was being thoroughly dug up.

Her identity as Ms. Dennis would be easy to uncover.

Back then, Tyler had protected her and her mother. But now, with the internet full of stories about Tyler and Vivienne's romance, people might figure he no longer cared about shielding her.

And then there were Tyler's enemies. When he'd led the transformation of the Erickson Group, he'd made more than a few.

Take Eugene, for instance—the former head of acquisitions Tyler had abruptly fired nearly a year ago for reasons unknown. That was still a mystery.
