Forsaken Until My Last Breath novel Chapter 13

Chapter 13

Vincent staggered, bracing against the wall to steady himself, eyes wide with terror.

Memories from last night flashed through his mind-the woman’s pale face, the deep gashes on her hands-cach im- age slamming into his consciousness.

Leaning on the wall, he gasped for air before slowly crouching down, head bowed in silence.

After a long while, his voice came out hoarse, “What happened to Patrick? He was fine… how?”

Dr. Frank replied with a flat tone, “The school surveillance video leaked online. Susan’s fans developed warped minds. One infiltrated the school and attacked Patrick. No one noticed during the incident. By the time they found him, it was too late.”

Vincent suddenly looked up, pupils dilating in shock.

He knew about the video accidentally spreading online.

He thought a small punishment would teach Patrick to behave cautiously, so he’d ignored it. Never imagined some extreme fan would go this far…

There was a time when the boy clung to him affectionately. Now he’d indirectly become Patrick’s executioner…

Frank watched Vincent tremble head to toe, his gaze cold as he continued, “Patrick’s mother hanged herself yesterday after bringing him home.”

Yesterday… yesterday…

Rebecca rushed off halfway through because she got news of her nephew’s death. Later, her beloved sister-in-law killed herself right in front of her…

Vincent covered his eyes with his hand, letting the scalding tears flow freely. He clenched his fists tightly, remaining silent for a long time.

No wonder she looked completely dead inside when she came home last night. Her utter exhaustion had made him suspect an affair.

He suddenly remembered how all light had vanished from her eyes when he insulted and bullied her.

“Becky…”

Vincent finally began to sob quietly, the sound growing louder until his grief could no longer be contained.

He’d betrayed the heart of that once proud woman who’d carried stars in her eyes!

His gaze drifted into emptiness as every beautiful memory of Rebecca flashed through his mind.

Right now, his desire to see Rebecca one last time burned fiercely within him.

Vincent followed Dr. Frank to the morgue entrance but stood frozen there, unable to muster the courage to enter.

Dr. Frank watched him silently before releasing a heavy sigh. “Miss Rebecca entrusted me with handling all three of their funeral arrangements.”

Vincent whirled around, eyes bloodshot, features twisted with madness as he screamed hysterically, “Entrust you? Didn’t want to see me?”

“Ha! I won’t let her have her way!”

“She was the only Mrs. Walker-in life and in death!”

Vincent clenched his fists, his gaze fixed on Dr. Frank, his face hardening. “Arrange the highest-tier funeral for Patrick and his mother. Send Rebecca back to the White family estate.”

Rebecca!

I know you didn’t want to return to Spring Harmony Villa. So I’ll send you to the place you loved.

I know you can’t stand the sight of me now. Once your anger fades, I’ll come see you.

He cast one last deep look at the morgue doors before leaving the hospital alone, returning to Spring Harmony Villa.

An icy draft wound through the hollow rooms.

Once, this had been their happy home.

He’d only wanted a child. Choosing Susan was meant to ensure the baby resembled Rebecca.

He never imagined losing control physically would inevitably loosen his emotional grip.

Time and again, he chose Susan, lost in the Love Nest, until returning to this villa filled him with dread.

Rebecca’s indifferent gaze felt like silent condemnation.

He’d believed that staying married would reset everything after the birth. That Rebecca would wait for him.

Slumping onto the sofa, his eyes drifted to the nearby easel.

He remembered that day he came back, Rebecca looked at him indifferently.

She was sketching him then, but he acted blind to it, hurling accusations at her.

Seeing her pale face, regret hit him instantly. Susan’s call gave him a frantic excuse to bolt.

The sketch was their promise. Only she kept it; he’d lost himself in extravagance long ago,

Vincent stumbled to the study and shoved the door open.
