Get Up First
Olivia Bennett was sprawled out across the bed, reaching out to him with a lazy smile and those big, bright eyes twinkling with mischief.
Ethan Carter felt his heart melt right there.
He took her hand, gently pulling her up, and with his other arm wrapped around her waist, he gave a little lift.
Before she knew it, Olivia landed softly in Ethan’s arms.
He sat her down at the edge of the bed, just about to lean over and help her slip on her shoes when Olivia stopped him with a quick, “I got it.”
She hopped up, tugged her sneakers on herself, then grabbed Ethan’s hand. “Let’s get ready together.”
Ethan just let her pull him along. The two of them wandered off to the bathroom, brushing their teeth and getting dressed side by side, tossing playful glances in the mirror.
Once they were dressed, they headed downstairs.
Adelina Lane was holding little Carey, bouncing her gently in her arms. Olivia scooped the baby up, cooing and making silly faces until Carey let out a giggle.
After a hearty breakfast—scrambled eggs, crispy bacon, and pancakes smothered in syrup—the three of them bundled up and headed to the hospital.
Their first stop was to check in on Beatty, then it was time for Carey’s checkup.
Everything came back perfectly healthy—Olivia was absolutely over the moon.
Carey, on the other hand, was not so thrilled. She had barely figured out what was happening before she got a shot. The poor thing wailed, big tears rolling down her cheeks.
Olivia and Ethan took turns soothing her, rocking her gently until her crying faded to little hiccups.
When they finally brought Carey to see Beatty, her eyes were still red and watery.
Beatty’s heart nearly broke. She scooped Carey up, hugging her close. “Oh, sweetheart, what happened? Why are your eyes all puffy?”
Olivia gave a tired smile. “She just got her vaccines. She’s not a fan of needles.”
Beatty sighed, completely understanding, but kept fussing over Carey. “My poor little girl. You’re so brave, aren’t you?”
