His disgusting, shameless words made my whole body tremble with rage and revulsion.
Heart pounding, I acted without thinking. I grabbed the heavy stapler from my desk and swung it at John’s head as hard as I could.
He let out a guttural scream as blood started pooling right in the middle of his forehead.
He actually tried this in front of everyone at work, acting like he owned the place. The rumors about John being obsessed with married women had always been around, but I never thought he’d come after me.
Luckily, I’d gotten a bad feeling the moment he walked in, so I’d already opened my phone camera and hit record. Otherwise, who knows what story he’d spin. Maybe he’d claim I was the one chasing after him, desperate for a new sugar daddy after my rich husband supposedly left me.
One hit wasn’t enough. I smashed him with the stapler two more times. Years of bottled-up frustration exploded out of me right then.
My resistance only made John angrier. He wiped at the blood on his forehead, looked at his bloody palm in shock, then came charging around the desk at me, shouting even more vile things.
I bolted for the door, with John right on my heels.
As soon as I yanked open the office door, all my coworkers turned to stare.
“You bitch! Hit me again and I’ll destroy you!” John bellowed, not caring that half the office was watching. He was so used to getting his way, he didn’t even try to hide his true colors.
He lunged at me, reaching for my hair.
I dodged to the side, about to trip him, but someone else moved faster.
A dark blur flashed past, sharp with the scent of oranges. A fist landed squarely on John’s bloated face.
John screamed again, clutching his right eye as he crashed to the floor, his back hitting the desk with a sickening thud. Another howl tore from his throat.
It was Remy.
