From Neglected Wife to CEO’s Obsession novel Chapter 107

I must be losing my mind, talking nonsense like this. Honestly, I’d rather wait for some random stray dog than ever wait for him again.

Work on the new project was in full swing, but picking the right team was a headache I was determined to tackle this morning. If I had time in the afternoon, I’d try to visit the hospital again. Landing a spot in Mr. White’s research group wasn’t going to happen if I didn’t give it my all.

As soon as I got to the office, I sent out a meeting notice for an hour later. I sat at my desk, mentally going over my shortlist while chugging a huge mug of black coffee, getting myself ready for the battle ahead.

Everyone who’d lasted this long in the tech department had some serious skills. But this project was different. All the big companies were racing for it, and whoever finished first would set the trend for the whole industry. That meant I needed people with not just top-tier skills, but also solid character.

The second I announced in the meeting that only a handful would make the cut for the project, the room exploded. New project meant big bonuses, and only picking a few meant the rest wouldn’t see a dime.

The three who’d always competed with me were the first to react, slamming their hands on the table and shouting. It turned into total chaos.

I just sat at the head of the table, calm and collected, watching them lose it. I’d expected this. If I couldn’t handle it, I didn’t deserve to be director in the first place.

Eventually, things quieted down. The oldest team member spoke up for everyone. “Ms. Greenwood, we’ve all been working side by side since you joined. Suddenly letting only a few in on this project isn’t fair to the rest of us. We want a proper explanation. If you don’t give us one, we’ll take this straight to upper management.”
