From Neglected Wife to CEO’s Obsession novel Chapter 161

Everyone around me—even Kailynn—used to say they were jealous, that I must’ve saved the galaxy in a past life to land such a thoughtful husband.

For five years, Remy did all those little things for me, day after day. Anyone would envy that kind of devotion.

I always felt so lucky, so sure I’d married the right man. But who would’ve guessed he’d already cheated on me before our wedding, hiding it so well I never saw a thing?

This year, when fall slipped into winter, Remy didn’t do anything for me. I won’t pretend it didn’t hurt, just a little.

But honestly, taking care of myself felt unexpectedly freeing. I could finally pick my own coffee, instead of just drinking whatever he decided I’d like.

I want love, but I also want loyalty—and freedom.

With that freedom, I started seeing the past differently. All those sweet gestures? They were just another way for him to keep control.

He made me dependent on him, made me feel like I couldn’t live without him.

So when I asked for a divorce, he barely blinked.

He thought I was so used to him I’d never really leave, that I didn’t have the guts or the strength.

He couldn’t have been more wrong. Without him, I only got better.

After parking, I walked to my building’s entrance and spotted a tiny figure huddled by the door.

It was a little girl—maybe six or seven—with messy long hair falling over her shoulders. She wore just a thin nightgown and slippers, no coat, her bare arms and legs turning blue from the cold.

She was curled up tight, hugging her knees, hair tangled and matted.

I figured she must be a neighbor’s kid and knelt down. “Hey, sweetie, are you okay? Do you need any help?”

She looked up, her little face dirty and streaked with tears, and in the softest voice, she whispered, “Mommy.”

My mind went completely blank. I just froze.

The moment I saw her face, my tears spilled over, and my heart felt like it might break in two.
