From Neglected Wife to CEO’s Obsession novel Chapter 164

How could anyone even say something like that?

I just can’t figure Remy out anymore. Standing there, he feels like a total stranger to me. Julia was the woman he claimed he’d love no matter what, even if it meant betraying me. How could he be so cold now?

My hand clenched into a fist. I spun around and slapped Remy, hard. He deserved it—someone that heartless needed to be snapped out of it.

But Remy didn’t even get mad. He actually smiled, like he was daring me to hit him again. As he opened his mouth to say something, I stepped closer and slapped him again, pointing at his face and yelling, “Remy, do you even have a heart? Even if Julia wasn’t the woman you loved, even if she was just a stranger, how could you treat anyone this way? Marissa abuses Cindy, and now you’re abusing Cindy’s mom. Like mother, like son—both of you are just awful.”

My voice shook, but I couldn’t hold back. Remy just stood there, his face turned away, eyes dark and impossible to read.

I grabbed my phone, called for an ambulance, and walked out of the storage room. In the living room, I waited.

Tiny Cindy was curled up in the corner of the couch, tears still clinging to her lashes. When she saw me, she reached out her little arms, wanting to be held.

I hesitated for a second, but then I walked over and picked her up. If I couldn’t even do that for her, I’d be no better than Remy.

About half an hour later, red and blue lights flashed into the house. I opened the front door for the paramedics—two guys in green scrubs carrying a stretcher, and a woman doctor in a white coat with an oxygen bag. The three of them headed straight to the storage room.

Julia had managed to get dressed and was lying on the bed. The doctor looped her stethoscope around her neck and asked, “Unbutton your shirt, please. Where does it hurt? When did this start? Have you taken any meds? Any allergies?”

Julia struggled to speak, her eyelids fluttering, but the doctor suddenly paused and frowned. What she said next just about stopped my heart: “Wait, isn’t this the AIDS patient? She doesn’t even look that sick. Why isn’t she in the hospital?”

It felt like someone had dropped a wrecking ball on my head. I could barely process what I’d just heard.

Julia has AIDS?
