From Neglected Wife to CEO’s Obsession novel Chapter 27

Even now, as he begged me to forgive him, every word Remy threw at Julia was packed with years of old resentment he’d never managed to let go of.

Mom had been right all along. There was something between those two—some twisted connection that could never really be untangled.

Back then, I was the one who messed up.

Right here, right now, it hit me with cold, brutal clarity—whatever love had once existed between Remy and me was officially over. Done for good.

But Julia couldn’t die in front of me.

She could die anywhere else for all I cared, just not here. Not right in front of my eyes.

Remy had lost it completely. He was strangling Julia, his fingers digging so deep into her neck it looked like he might break it if he squeezed any harder.

No matter how hard I pulled, I couldn’t pry his hands away.

Julia’s eyes had already lost focus. Snot dripped onto Remy’s hands, drool spilled from her lips, and something wet and foul seeped out beneath her, filling the air with a stomach-turning stench.

If this went on, Julia was seriously going to die.

Panic shot through me. Desperate, I scanned the room and grabbed the first thing I saw—a half-full bottle of water on the coffee table. I swung it at Remy’s head with everything I had.

The bottle smashed with a sharp crack.

The force knocked me off balance and I crashed right into the corner of the aquarium.

My forehead slammed against the edge. Something hot and sticky started running down my face, and my mouth filled with the tang of blood. The world spun and faded around the edges.

I cried out, clutching my head as I slid to the floor.

Remy spun around at the sound. When he saw me with blood streaming down my face, the wild rage in his eyes instantly disappeared. He shoved Julia aside and lunged for me.

“Avery, are you okay? Don’t be afraid. I’ll take you to the hospital. You’ll be alright. I promise.”
