From Neglected Wife to CEO’s Obsession novel Chapter 30

“No,” I said, stepping out of the bedroom and sinking onto the couch. “Come sit, Remy. We need to talk—really talk—and actually deal with this.”

Remy didn’t move an inch. The warmth he usually had was gone, replaced by a cold, distant stare. His voice was tight, like every word was hard to force out. “If you want to talk about divorce, don’t bother. Avery, I love you. I’m not agreeing to a divorce.”

“Fine. When you’re ready to actually talk, let me know. For now, I’m moving out. I can’t live in this ridiculous love triangle. At least I know when to leave and give you both some space.”

He just stood there, eyes so dark it was like they could swallow the light, watching as I grabbed my suitcase and headed for the door. I didn’t even look back as I knelt to change my shoes.

Remy took a long, shaky breath, his chest rising and falling. Then, with a few quick strides, he was right beside me, his hand clamped down on my suitcase. His voice was rough, barely above a whisper. “What do I have to do for you to forgive me? It was just a kiss. I never slept with her. I don’t love her anymore. Why can’t you let this go?”

Even now, he still didn’t get it.

I let out a tired sigh.

He wasn’t going to understand unless I spelled it out. “Just imagine if the roles were reversed. What if you saw me in my ex’s arms, kissing him, his hands all over me? Would you honestly be okay with that?”

“You say you love me. Maybe you do. But compared to what you feel for Julia, it doesn’t even come close. And let’s be real. Making out with your ex in the middle of the night while you’re married? That’s a huge betrayal.”

“Don’t interrupt me. Sure, you can deny it all you want. But let me ask you this: Why did you bring ointment to Julia late at night? And when Julia burned me, how did you react? Are you really clueless about what’s going on, or are you just choosing to protect Julia?”

“You say you love me, but I’m the one left hurt every time. Why is that? Love is the one place where a little selfishness is allowed. If you love me, then be loyal to me. But after you promised me loyalty, you went and kissed Julia. I’m your wife, but you treat her like she’s the one who matters most. Cheating isn’t just about sleeping together, Remy. Betrayal is betrayal, no matter how you try to explain it away.”

His face turned red, then pale, his jaw tight, veins standing out on his temple and neck like he was about to explode.
