From Neglected Wife to CEO’s Obsession novel Chapter 65

A sharp pain shot through my wrist, making me suck in a breath. My pale, slender wrist was marked by a dark purple scab—hard to miss and even harder to ignore.

In an instant, memories from yesterday came flooding back—Remy’s cold, dark eyes, the agony of being tied up, the panic when I couldn’t breathe, the sheer hopelessness of thinking I was about to die. All of it—every terrifying second—was because of Remy.

I tried to roll over and, out of habit, reached for my phone on the nightstand. Remy had been so cruel to me. I was going to report him. Even if he was untouchable here in Georgia Bay, even if I knew I’d lose, even if no lawyer would dare take my case—I still wanted to do it.

The noise must have woken Elliot, who’d been sleeping on the couch. He opened his eyes—bright, sharp, not the slightest bit sleepy. He stood up smoothly and walked over, bringing with him that cool, clean scent of pine.

“You had a scare. The hospital gave you a sedative. How do you feel now? Think you can get up on your own? If not, I’ll call Marian to help.”

No wonder I’d slept so soundly, not even a single dream. It was the meds.

With Elliot’s help, I managed to sit up. My feet hit the floor and I tried to walk, slow and shaky, toward the bathroom. My foot was bandaged and not bleeding, but every step hurt like crazy. My body felt completely wrecked. Just walking the short distance from the bedhead to the foot of the bed left me sweating.

Elliot hovered nearby, hand ready to catch me if I slipped. I gave him a tired smile and leaned against the bedframe, needing a second before I could go any farther.

Dizziness hit me out of nowhere. Before I could react, Elliot scooped me up, that pine scent swirling around me again.
