At Georgia Bay, Thompson Corporation had a slight edge over the Foss Group.
If I ended up causing the Foss Group to offend Thompson Corporation, the fallout would be serious—maybe even disastrous.
Especially now. Remy wasn’t the Remy I used to know. I honestly had no idea what he might do next.
“Avery, are you okay? When I landed, my brother told me you got hurt—I was freaking out! Let me see, where are you injured?”
Remy, still looking like he’d been through a brawl, stood frozen for two whole minutes before finally straightening up and fixing his messy clothes. The storm in his eyes faded, replaced by guilt and regret.
When Kailynn saw the bruises on my wrists and ankles, and I told her the basics of what happened yesterday morning, her face went completely white. She didn’t hesitate—she just started smacking Remy with her purse, swinging it like she meant business.
“You’re not even as loyal as a dog! At least dogs know who feeds them and treat them right. But you, Mr. Thompson, can’t even manage that. And you had the nerve to hurt Avery? Seriously, are you tired of living or just stupid?”
“It wasn’t that long ago you were tossed out like a stray, remember? Barely hanging on. Without Avery, you wouldn’t even be here! You used her patent to save Thompson Corporation, and now, just a few years later, you’re already cheating? What’s wrong with you?”
“Remy, you jerk. Remember what you said when you married our Kailynn? If you can’t be a real man, just admit it. Avery doesn’t have to stick around for you. What you did is called fraud—marriage fraud! That’s actually a crime, you know?”
Remy’s face turned scarlet at that, his eyes blazing with shame and anger. No guy could keep his cool after being called out like that in public.
Kailynn didn’t let up for a second. Every word hit Remy right where it hurt, and her purse was still flying through the air.
“Enough, Kailynn! Don’t think I won’t do something about you!” Remy barked, grabbing her purse strap, his glare icy and threatening.
Kailynn, furious, kicked him and tried to yank her bag back. Remy wouldn’t let go, and the two of them started a full-on tug-of-war over the purse.
