“Denton used to be our scout in the team,” Tyler explained, seeing Caroline’s confused look.

Caroline suddenly got it. That makes sense. Young, a sweet talker, and good–looking–definitely cut out for scouting.

After walking through the snow for about an hour and a half, they finally reached the place Tyler mentioned.

What Caroline didn’t expect was that it used to be an amusement park before the apocalypse.

The place sat on higher ground with a steep slope.

Back then, people even called it Steep Valley.

Looking around, it was obvious there had been an avalanche here recently. A lot of the snow had already slid down.

But the amusement park was still buried under layers of white.

Only part of a Ferris wheel was visible above the snow.

“Oh no,” Francis said nervously. “Don’t tell me the factory’s buried under there. That’s gonna be a real hassle.”

Tyler nodded. “There’s a town behind the amusement park, up the mountain. They used to make food products there. Every house had processing equipment. There’s also a big factory on the mountain. I’ve been there—it’s empty now, just equipment.”

Caroline knew what kind of setup he meant–small family workshops, each with a few machines in their yards, selling stuff online or to locals.

She also remembered a big local food company that used to be somewhere around this area.

Maybe that big company had built its factory here.

But the real trouble hadn’t even started yet.

This amusement park once had a circus.

And right now, a pair of glowing green eyes was locked onto the group.

A huge paw slammed down, leaving a deep impression in the ground.

A massive mouth let out a warning roar.

“Did anyone else hear that?” Denton asked, looking around suspiciously.

The silver sparrow perched on his shoulder also turned its head, alert.

Before Francis could finish, a loud thud hit the roof of the vehicle, like something heavy had landed on top.

“Rooaaarrr!”

The deafening roar made the whole car shake.

“Oh hell no, tell me that’s not a tiger!” Francis shouted.

He grabbed his radio and barked out orders, “Load the tranquilizers! Defensive formation- move!”

At the same time, Francis loaded his gun and jumped out of the car without hesitation.

Caroline immediately heard gunshots outside.

Then came another loud thud above her head, followed by a tiger’s roar. Through the window, she caught a glimpse of a massive orange figure darting past.

“It’s a mutant tiger,” Caroline muttered, frowning.

She grabbed Raven, ready to go help.

But the driver stopped her. “Ms. Sinclair, we’ve got this. You’re here assisting the army, might as well let you see what Colonel Sutton’s soldiers can do.”

As soon as he finished, he jumped out with his gun.

Caroline saw that the moment he stepped outside, he dropped and rolled to avoid the mutant tiger’s claw. It was clear he was agile and had plenty of combat experience.

The mutant tiger wasn’t much bigger than a normal one, but it was way faster. It also had two long, sharp fangs growing out of its mouth, making it look like an ancient saber–toothed cat.
