He continued,” This has been eating me up for years. I knew if I brought it up, you’d walk out with that hot head of yours. But no guy can stomach his girl sleeping with some old creep, Freya.
“I just wanted to even the score in my head. I didn’t do anything with her, I swear.”
They were both spent-body and soul.
Freya was physically drained, her heart icing over bit by bit. “I didn’t do anything with Professor Cooper either. Believe it or not, that’s the truth.”
“A guy and a girl, alone in a hotel room all night, strolling out the next morning, and nothing happened? Come on, Freya, a lie’s gotta at least make sense,” Liam shot back.
“You don’t believe me?”
“You’re too gorgeous, too perfect. I believe you could keep it together, but no way that old perv kept his hands off.
“So what’d you two do in that hotel room all night? Binge Netflix? Play Go Fish? Snuggle up and have a heart- to-heart?”
“And when we slept together the first time, I didn’t feel any… you know, resistance.”
Freya had been about to say something, but that last line killed any urge to talk.
Doctors had said it a hundred times: the hymen can break from sports, exercise, or just life.
Women these days weren’t getting hitched at thirteen like back in the day. By the time they finished college, they were in their twenties, their bodies fully developed.
Freya knew Liam wasn’t clueless about this. But that thorn had been lodged in his heart too long. No words would pull it out now.
Freya sighed. “Liam, you still don’t trust me.”
He leaned in, kissing her cheek. “I love you. That’s enough.”
That night, Liam didn’t push her further.
“Freya, we’ve got our whole lives together. No rush for tonight,” he said gently.
In her heart, Freya thought, ‘There’s no whole life left.’
The problem between her and Liam wasn’t about cheating, or Thomad Cooper, or Natalie.
It was that Liam had already decided she was the kind of woman who’d sleep her way into a grad school spot.
He didn’t know her. And he didn’t trust her.

This could be patched up for now, but it would always be a wall between them—a knot they’d never untie.
After that night’s blowout, Liam seemed to let go of his baggage. He was all over Freya, sweeter than ever.
Rose was cooking up a new fancy soup every day. If Freya wouldn’t drink it, Rose used it in the veggies. Liam’s orders were clear: Freya needed to be in top shape to get pregnant, pronto.
But Freya noticed she was being followed every time she stepped out.
One day, she slipped into a mall’s women’s restroom to test her hunch. Sure enough, two guys and two women showed up at the entrance.
The guys stood guard outside while the women ducked into the stalls on either side of hers.
Freya flushed the toilet on purpose. The stalls next to her flushed too, and the women stepped out.
