Chapter 20

Chapter 20

Natalie’s over-the-top wail sent Joseph and Madison into a full-on panic.

Madison snapped, “Liam, move it! Get her to the hospital, pronto!”

Natalie was curled up on the floor, squirming like she was in some horror-movie pain.

“Liam! Now!” Joseph’s voice was a low growl, no negotiation.

Liam clenched his fists and glanced at Freya. “I’m taking her to the ER. Freya, hang tight—I’ll be back.”

“Hold up,” Freya said, stopping him dead in his tracks. “That asteroid you promised me-you still got that on your radar?”

“Yeah, what’s up?”

“Payment papers came through. Need your John Hancock.”

Liam gave her a look. “You serious? Right this second?”

“Yup. Right this second.”

He paused, then nodded quick. “Fine, let’s do this fast.”

Liam hefted the box upstairs for Freya, bounding up the steps like he was running from something.

In the master bedroom, Freya sliced the box open with a knife and yanked out two documents.

She shoved them at him. “Sign these, then go save the day.”

Downstairs, Natalie’s sobs, Joseph’s bellowing, and Madison’s tongue-lashing swirled into a hot mess, like a reality TV meltdown or a haunted house on steroids.

It was the kind of chaos that could make one’s head spin-or send one straight to the loony bin.

Liam, looking like he was one scream away from losing it, scrawled his name on the papers and handed them back. “Freya, wait for me. I mean it.”

Freya gripped the signed Power of Attorney forms, standing by the window as she watched their car peel out of the driveway. Finally, some blessed silence.

She punched Ryan’s number into her phone.

He answered on the first ring. “Ms. Harper?”

“Not bad, Ryan. Didn’t know you moonlighted as a paparazzo,” she said.

The photos he’d sent were slick, perfectly timed shots. No way some rando with an iPhone could’ve nailed

those moments.

Ryan chuckled. “Guess we’re both sneaky like that. Didn’t you hire a pro to snap those flirty shots of us when we met up?”

“You knew?!”

“I’m a lawyer, Freya. I don’t miss a thing. But spill-what’re you doing with that pic?”

Freya snorted. “You still want me to dump Liam or what? If you do, meet me at the courthouse in thirty minutes.”

Half an hour later, Freya rolled up to the courthouse and spotted Ryan already chilling by the entrance.

She smirked. “Damn, Mr. Fancy-Pants Lawyer’s early for once?”
