Ryan grinned, tossing her a playful jab. “You really ready to kick Liam to the curb? Good luck finding another guy with his kinda swagger.”
Freya fired back, “Ryan, keep running your mouth, and I’ll rip this receipt to shreds right here.”
“Whoa, chill!” Ryan chuckled, throwing up his hands. “Just making sure you’re solid on this. I figured Liam’s been so good to you, you might wimp out.”
Wimp out?’ Freya thought to herself. ‘Life’s too short to hold onto what’s not right.
“So, what’s next after you’re free?” Ryan asked.
“Gonna get a job,” she replied.
Freya had a degree in hotel management, but for years, she’d just been Liam’s wife. He’d never been keen on her working.
He’d told her once, “Sure, it’s management, but in a hotel, even the boss has to bow and scrape to guests. Freya, we don’t need that kind of hassle.”
Now, looking back, she saw how off-base that was.
Love makes you dumb, she thought, shaking her head in regret.
Lily had just wrapped a movie shoot and was lounging at home. Freya wasn’t ready to face her empty house, so she crashed at Lily’s instead.
When Freya mentioned job hunting, Lily’s eyes lit up. “Yo, why not be my manager? We’d run the game together!*
Freya wasn’t biting. “I don’t know squat about your world. I’d rather stick to what I’m good at than crash and burn in something new.”
“Hotels it is, then?”
“Yup, Freya said. “My parents shelled out for my degree, so I wanna make it worth something. Plus… you know my family’s drama. I’m getting my dad’s hotel back one day.”
Freya’s dad had run a hotel, and they’d been loaded when she was a kid.
But then his buddies pulled a fast one, scamming him out of everything.
Debt collectors started showing up, all threats and bad vibes, turning their lives into a nightmare. In the end. her dad sold the hotel for peanuts and ended up behind bars.
Freya later found out those same “friends” got their hands on the hotel. They’d set him up just to swipe it.
Lily snapped her fingers. ‘Hold up! My next gig’s shooting in Sairo, and the crew’s booked at the Wesley Hotel.
