Her Divorce Lawyer Want Her novel Chapter 8

Chapter 8

Freya didn’t hesitate. “I did my homework. Community property’s usually fifty-fifty. But he’s the one screwing around, so he’s the bad guy. I’m pushing for forty-sixty-forty for him, sixty for me.”

Ryan gave her a look, half-impressed. “Well, damn, Mrs. Grant. Thought you’d be all saintly, walking away with just your pride.”

“Why should I?” Freya fired back. “What’s mine is mine. And since you’re so hyped about this divorce, Mr. Reed, this one’s on you. If I don’t get my sixty percent, you’re half-assing it.”

Ryan laughed, shaking his head. “Trying to light a fire under me, huh? Any other demands?”

Freya paused, then said, “I want custody.”

Ryan’s fingers froze on the keyboard. “Wait… you guys got a kid?” His eyes flicked to her stomach.

Freya tugged her coat tighter, covering herself. “Not a kid. Our dog. We raised him together, and he’s coming with me.”

It was their first Valentine’s Day. While other dudes sent roses, Liam rolled up with a tiny Westie, barely weaned, all fluffy and white.

Now, that pup was fifteen, old as dirt for a dog. Blind, with a rap sheet of health problems.

“He’s ancient,” Freya said softly. “This place’ll have a new woman soon, and I’m not trusting anyone else to look after him. He’s mine.”

Ryan went quiet for a beat, his tone gentler. “If Liam knows you’re soft on the dog and fights for custody, what’s your move? Ditch everything, or stay here to see the pup through?”

Freya mulled it over. “I’d give up the whole property split. Just give me the dog.”

Ryan stared at her, like he was chewing on something. Freya grinned. “What’s with the spacing out, counselor? Get typing. The dog’s non-negotiable.”

Snapping out of it, Ryan said, “You don’t have to ditch the split. Want the dog? Move him out now.”

Freya frowned. “He’s old, Ryan. Tons of health issues. Boarding him at a pet shop’s a hard pass, and my friends are too slammed to play vet every day.”

Ryan jumped in. “Bring him to my place. I’m light on cases right now. I can deal.”

She squinted at him. “What about your dream girl? You got time to play dog-sitter?”

Ryan spun around, grinning. “My girl’s a total dog person’

Her phone buzzed. Freya glanced down-Natalie, of all people, hitting her up on Message

Natalie: [Hi, Mrs. Grant! New jewelry just dropped at the shop. Super cute stuff! Wanna check it out?]

A flood of photos poured in, way too many to scroll through.

Ryan peeked over. “Thought you weren’t into bling. Who’s trying to hawk this stuff to you?”

Freya ignored him, typing back: [Working late, huh? No date night with your man?]

Natalie: [Gotta hustle, you know? Guys can wait, lol.]
