Freya glanced at Ryan. “Mr. Reed, I’m leaving the divorce papers with you. I’ll hit you up once I’ve signed the retainer.”

Ryan smirked. “What, you kicking me out already?”

“I’ve got plans.”

“Late-night date, huh? You sneaking off to meet your secret boyfriend?”

Freya rolled her eyes. “I’m catching a show.”

“Nice. Count me in. I could use some entertainment.”

Freya hadn’t meant to drag Ryan along. But before she could say no, he’d already shut his laptop and was halfway down the stairs to grab the car.

She shrugged. ‘Whatever. He only has it in for me. Maybe this little outing will let him get a look at his future sister-in-law early!

They pulled up to the mall about thirty minutes later.

Ryan went to park, and Freya headed inside.

As she turned the corner by the jewelry store, she spotted Natalie, decked out in her work uniform, slipping on blue velvet gloves and arranging a fresh batch of sparkly gems.

Her phone buzzed. Liam.

Freya smirked and picked up. “Hey.”

“Freya, I wrapped things up early. Where you at? House is empty,” he asked.

She kept her tone light, poking at him. “What happened to that super urgent thing you had? Done already?”

“Come on, I hustled to get back for you. I said I’d take some time off to hang, didn’t I? Today was just a one- time deal.”

Freya bit back a laugh. What a crock. She took a deep breath. “You said you’d be out all night, so I swung by Lily’s.”

Lily Hall, her ride-or-die, was an actress with a bit of fame. She always had to disguise herself to dodge fans, so their hangouts were usually after dark.

Liam never questioned it, and he didn’t now.

“Lily? Wasn’t she filming in Lasviton like two days ago?”

“She wrapped.”

“Alright, cool,” Liam said. “Have fun. I’ll swing by Lily’s tomorrow morning to grab you.”

“Nah, Lily’s driver’s got me.”

She hung up and strolled toward the jewelry store.

Natalie spotted her and flashed a big smile. “Mrs. Grant! You’re here. Hang on, my phone’s going off-gimme

a sec.”

Freya nodded, dropping into a chair and flipping through a glossy magazine.

Natalie’s voice drifted over, all sweet and flirty. “Babe, don’t get pissed. This rich lady’s got cash to burn-she’s not gonna waste my time.

“No idea how long she’ll stick around. Customer’s always right, you know? Can’t just rush her out.

“Alright, I know it was crappy to bail on you last minute. I’ll make it up, promise.
