No, no, no. That was not what I had meant.

Martin saw the fear rising in my eyes and called out for that stupid puppet, of his that came wagging its tail in

an instant.

Barty was practically glued to the door, it seemed and was overhearing every conversation we had. I could only thank the Goddess Martin had provided me that wooden screen to change and not made me strip right in front of him.

I was feeling helpless and angry. Why the fuck did this magic or whatever I had never ever showed up?

I needed it desperately when Killian was bleeding and I need it now when he is probably again in danger.

My gaze flew to my palms and tried twisting and turning the fingers hoping something would happen. A tiny spark or just a tendril of smoke, something should appear between my fingers.

But they stayed mercilessly blank.

I was a pathetic human being held hostage by an evil Lycan monster. I refused to call Martin a Lycan because he was not anything like Killian, who was indeed a good lycan and a human being.

Go get this witch’s favorite maid, shall you?Martin said with a wicked grin and I tried to run after Barty but he shoved me away.

He was tall and built like a wall so he had to put no effort in pushing me off his way. I was hurled to the side but thankfully I avoided getting my head thrashed against the wall.

No, please don’t hurt MaryI said and Martin slapped his hand against the forehead.

Mary, is that her name? I bloody forgot. I hope Barty gets the right one instead of an unknown girl.

Martin answered and tapped upon his temple as I folded my hands and literally begged him.

I told already I will do anything you want. Then why are you unnecessarily dragging this out?I asked, gritting my teeth.

But you also keep begging to be let out and find my little bastard brother. I dont know which of your claims to believe.

He said, going back to sit on the chair and drumming his fingers on the smooth, marble handrest.

The clicking of his fingernails against that handrest grated against my nerves and I wondered how to take both myself and Mary out of this room.

I wasn’t sure what sick power play he was going for when he already had everything at his disposal.

And KillianI hoped he was okay. I wasn’t sure if Martin had already sent his men behind Killian. I hoped Killian had seen right through Martin’s awful plan and realized this was a trap or at least had gotten far away for the men to pursue him.

A small corner of my heart hoped Killian was not around even if I needed him the most right now. At first I had wondered how the claws of a werewolf had been able to injure a Lycan but now I could guess his wretched brother had definitely laced it with some kind of poison.

My knowledge of werewolves was not that great but I knew they could heal from most injuries unless it was deadly.

If only by some happenstance I could awaken my magic, I would take extreme pleasure in giving Martin a painful and horrible death.

I wanted to skin that bastard alive!

I was trying to think of more ways to get him to listen to me when the door opened and Mary was shoved forward. She came stumbling towards me and I quickly threw my arms around her to break her fall.

My lady. Whatwhat is going on?She looked at me, taking in the revealing dress I was wearing and Martin seated in front of me with a smug smile.

Oh Barty you brought the correct one after all. Come here.”

Martin was very pleased with Barty who approached him as Martin took off one of the many necklaces he wore and dropped in Barty’s palms.

Consider this a gift from me for being so resourceful.

Mary hugged me and I quickly tried to fill her on what was going on while Martin gloated in front of Barty who was grinning from ear to ear.

Thatthat is from the royal coffers, it bears the Elorin Kingdom’s crest!

She pointed at the necklace that Barty pocketed and looked at me in fear.

So that means he has really usurped the throne? Whwhat about prince Killian? Where is he? He can stop this madness!

I tried to explain but the door shut behind us, leaving just me, Mary, and Martin along with Emery who had been watching everything quietly for a while now.

Emery scowled upon seeing Mary who stared back at her with contempt. It looked like they both didn’t like each other.

So that is where you have been hiding all these months, huh, Mary? Behind this duplicitous witch and that prince who you stare at every second in the hopes of he would notice you one day?

I blinked in confusion, but Mary vehemently refuted her claim.

And what have been you doing? Though judging by that smug smile, congratulations. You seem to have
