I Bought the exiled king (by Natalie Winter) novel Chapter 36

Valencia

I asked, pointing at the huge structure in front of us.

Mary smiled and replied. The castle of King Accidus. Hurry up, now!

She urged me and I only gawked at my surroundings, pinching myself to ensure I wasn’t dreaming.

This place was real. The castle was real as well.

I had been working on files and law cases for the past five years and suddenly I was walking towards a freaking castle!

The stone bridge was wide enough to allow almost ten people walk side by side at once. The water continued to slosh and flow under it.

Mary looked back at me again and added, Hurry up, miss. We can’t keep the King waiting

She was taking me to King Aecidus? What for?

I thought King Aecidus wouldn’t waste his time on a commoner like me.

Mary gave me a knowing smile.

You are anything but a commoner,

Huh?

What did that mean?

Η

Also, who was this King Aecidus again? Maybe I could try talking to him directly and plead freedom. And then find lan to kill him for dumping me in an unknown place.

I trusted him, and he knocked me out! I was never going to forgive him!!

I looked behind once when we reached the center of the bridge and wondered if I should run the opposite way.

But then there was nothing but a few old huts, a tall manor and a shore. There was nowhere to go, even if I somehow managed to escape the tower.

I looked ahead miserably, even though Mary didn’t look uncomfortable in the slightest.

I kept walking on the path Mary led me through and kept looking around, trying to memorize the huge, sprawling city all around the castle and its many paths.

The city was bustling with people, all working hard but otherwise seemingly content. There were shops selling all kinds of stuff and people chatting with each other while kids were busy playing.

We crossed an intersection that passed through a huge fountain that divided the intersection into four different lanes.

The road straight ahead would lead phe to the castle. The nearer we got to it, the more beautiful it looked.

But then I recalled Mary’s words. They were going to put me on some dreaded trial again.

Chapter 36

I couldn’t help but curse myself.

Maybe Sophia had been right all along. She was convinced lan was some drug or mafia lord who was toying with me and now it looked like he had dumped me in this unknown kingdom.

I should have listened to her and not blindly trusted lan.

Now, I was in a place full of unknown people and was being likely sent to my death all over again.

At least I was not handcuffed.

I tried to think positive as we reached the massive iron gates of the castle. Guards were patrolling it and thankfully, the clothes they wore weren’t from any other era.

The guards looked at Mary, who announced.

I am here to take the blessed one to the King.”

At that, all the guards collectively turned their heads to look at me.

Blessed one?

I looked behind me to see if Mary was referring to someone else, but there was nobody behind me.

I looked at her in confusion, but she gave me no further explanation.

The guards, meanwhile, began to whisper amongst each other. I tried to crane my ears to hear what they were saying, but couldn’t because they were a bit far from me.

I began to feel uneasy all over again.

Mary, you might have somebody wrong. I am not blessed in any way.

I tried to tell Mary, who politely shook her head.

Your arrival has been awaited since a long time. I know you are the one.

What the hell was she blabbering about?

I didn’t even know how I had come here. All I remembered was me trusting lan and him injecting me with something that knocked

me out.

I woke up in that god awful tower with no recollection of what happened between that moment and me arriving here.

I kept wondering about it as the guards finally opened the gates and Mary held me by the elbow while two guards joined us

Where did they think I would run away?

The guards kept observing me as I whispered to Mary.

I am not a blessed one

But she insisted.

Chapter 36

When you get an audience with the King, you w

will understand. Come, let’s make hatte

grumbled but the two guards held large weapons in their hands and I was afraid they would hurt me, so I kept some distance from them and kept walking

We walked across a sige front yard that could house an entire pack. It was decorated with lush green plants and shrubs dotted artistically

We were stopped by a few more guards on our way and every time Mary told them the same thing that she was escorting the blessed one to the royal chambers.

Every guard had that same surprised reaction and stared at me as if I had grown another head.

The castle was beautiful from outside, but it was even gorgeous from outside. Unlike the tower I had been kept in, this castle was made up of smooth, polished marble and there were huge pillars covered in intricate flower designs as well as a few symbols didn’t quite understand.

I didn’t think I had seen them before.

The walls were spotless, and the floors were squeaky clean. I looked around in fascination as Mary led me through one of the several passageways, the guards still behind us.

She finally stopped outside a door and gestured for me to go in.

You can go in. The King will grant you an audience soon.

But what are the charges against me? And why did you call me a Blessed one?

I asked in a harrowed voice, but Mary and the guards left swiftly and I stood staring at the door awkwardly.

Okay, I had survived so far. I might as well see what was going on.

I walked into the massive hall that was empty except for me and a chair placed up on a raised platform in front of me.

I waited in that room looking around stupidly for an hour before a door on the opposite side opened and an old man walked in.
