So I pushed him away and asked him to leave the house,

I wanted some time alone.

“Just go. I have to get myself together.”

It looked like lan had a lot more to say, but he only nodded.

“There is only one thing I want you to know.”

He said, looking at me warily. “And what is that?”

“You might want to call me Killian. That is my name.”

I glared at him.

“So even your name was a lie?”

“No, it’s just that not many use it. Now, I will let you rest.”

He cleared his throat and called out for Mary loudly. She came running inside the room in an instant.

“Mary, please ensure Miss Valencia gets everything she needs. She is going to stay here for a while.”

At that, I got up and shouted.

“No, I am not going to rot here for the rest of my life.”

lan or Killian said nothing to it and only walked outside the home, leaving me with a growing headache.

Mary walked into the room and bowed to me dutifully.

“Let me know if you are hungry. I can cook something for you.”

Thad not even gotten a proper look at the kingdom, I still didn’t know where its

try and exit points were.

Killian, as he liked to call himself, had gotten me to this place by knocking me out. There were a whole lot of things I had to fight about, but for now, I had to find out what my connection to this witch was.

Mary had called me the blessed one, I wondered what she knew about it.

“So, you have always lived here?” I asked her as a way of starting a conversation.

“Yes, miss.”

“I see. So you must be familiar with this kingdom’s customs and traditions, right?”

She nodded.

“All the females are. As are the males. King Accidus believes a lot in traditions and customs.”

Ahh. That explained his overall demeanor with me in the short meeting with him. He had dismissed me as someone unworthy of his time and focused all on lan.

Even if I was a blessed one, as per their words.

“So any idea what is a blessed one?”

“I thought Prince Killian must have told you.”

“He did. But I also want to hear it from you because you first mentioned it.” I managed to come up with an excuse.

If she had realized that I would not want to deal with him for a while, she didn’t say anything.

“You must have heard all about the Morwenna witch and her curse that took away all the strength and glory of the lycans. Generally, werewolves deem them as bad people who want bloodshed but not all lycans are bad. Some just want to co–exist peacefully.”

I straightened my back.

“But why did she side with the werewolves instead of the lycans? lan, I mean Prince Killian made it seem like she wanted to see the lycans fail.”

I probed her, but she seemed uncomfortable with my line of questioning.

“She was a very devious and cunning witch. The werewolves lured her by making promises of giving witches and wizards a safe haven. But they were only trying to save their own homes. The lycans are a proud breed. A lot of politics happened but in the end, I believe the witch Morwenna realized she had done too much damage. But her spell couldn’t be undone. She had used a very strong one.”

My curiosity perked up.

“So she created a counter mechanism?”

Mary nodded while resuming to dust the furniture again.

“Yes, she had grown old and her powers had been drained. But it is believed that she felt sorry for her actions and prophesied that her heir would make things right again.”

“So she disappeared from the known world? Has anybody seen her?”

Mary shook her head. “The royal court and princes must know more than I do.”

It looked like she was reluctant to say more or probably not allowed to.

Maybe I could ask her something else.
