Chapter 41
Chapter 41
Valencia
I was surprised at that suggestion.
“Why do you say that?”
1 asked, scooting towards the edge of my seat.
She seemed to change the topic midway.
“You must be hungry, right? What do you want me to cook?”
“Don’t change the topic, Mary. Please, I need to know.”
She fidgeted with her fingers and replied, “I should not say this, but finding any clue to the witch had turned into a competition of sorts. A few of the princes were given additional support by the King to find a clue. So naturally, when they failed to find anything. they were ashamed to report that to the king. Now, imagine their disappointment when the prince nobody expected to find anything brought you.”
I let that sink in for a while.
Killian was a nice guy though he had lied to me. His gaze or presence hadn’t creeped me out like Martin’s.
I could only imagine how the rest of his siblings were.
“Why did nobody expect him to find anything?”
Mary shrugged. “The King doesn’t really hold any of his children in high regard. Except Martin, of course.”
I noticed the way she called him Martin, not prince, like she did with Killian.
“He is King Aecidus‘ favorite son?”
She nodded. “Yes. And he likes to brag about it quite often.”
I recalled my brief meeting with Martin, and no doubt found him to be quite pompous. I shuddered at the thought of how it would have been had Martin found me, not Killian.
Timagined Martin at Wolves and Whiskey and my immediate thought was that I would never ever consider buying him as my call boy or slipping into his arms.
“I see,” I managed and fell into deep thoughts.
Would I have trusted him if he had shared his ulterior motives with me? Would I have given my hand in his if I had known he was going to kidnap and bring me to the kingdom of Elorin?
I didn’t think so.
My trust in him was built on lies and deception.
I wasn’t sure what to feel about him.
Chapter 41
Mary dragged me out of my thoughts and began nagging me for lunch.
“Please tell me what you would like to eat, miss. I also have to rush to prepare for the event later today”
“Event? What event?”
Mary informed. “As you know, all the princes were called back to the kingdom.
there might be a welcome dinner for them.”
“Oh
I didn’t want to burden her with more work, so I simply asked her to leave after reassuring her multiple times that I wasn’t hungry.
Truth be told, I wanted to survey the kingdom and find the nearest exit. I couldn’t do that with her hovering around me 24/7.
After a lot of back and forth, she finally walked out of the mansion to hurry for the dinner tonight.
I waited for a while and craned my neck outside the window. It was a bright clear day, though there were a few people walking
around.
Maybe I should step outside and take a good look myself. With that in mind, I stepped outside the home and pretended to take a casual stroll.
There were a few people going about their day, but relatively the surroundings were quiet. That was good because it gave me the opportunity to look around.
After some thought, I ran back inside the home and shuffled through the drawers and cabinets for a paper and pen.
ty, but I finally found an old dusty diary and an even old pen in it.
Most of the drawers were empty,
Running outside the home, I started to jot down the important things I noticed, such as the number of houses around lanes, etc.
But soon I realized it would take me forever, so I flipped the page and began to draw a map instead.
Something I could understand and refer to later.
The castle was quite far from my home and I counted the steps it took me to reach there as well as the time.
Then I calculated the time I would need if I were to run towards it. Mary’s words rang in my mind.
She had asked me to stay close to Killian for my own well–being. But I was the blessed one as per their beliefs, would they really hurt me?
I tried not to ponder over it and focused on looking around instead.
The Kingdom was gigantic and there was no way I could find out all the entryways and exits today. I would need a lot more time and a bigger paper.
Thankfully, there were huge treas on either side of the road so that allowed me to rest under the cool shade.
I had been just roaming around for an hour but was already feeling tired. My stomach grumbled as if complaining to me that I should have taken up Mary’s offer of food.
Kicking a stray rock, I decided to get up and head back home. There must be something in the kitchen I could eat.
Chapter 41
With that in mind, I grabbed the diary and pen and began walking back towards home when I heard a loud voice behind me
“Oh, look who is wandering around like a lost pup.”
It was followed by a few laughs.
I turned around to see Martin in the center of a group consisting of over 7 members. All of them looked around the same age.
And there was even a girl with them.
They were all laughing at me.
Martin noticed my expression and immediately scolded them.
“Come on now, is that how you treat the blessed one?” He said, and the group suppressed their giggles.
