But I stepped aside, so she lost her balance, tripped and fell face forward onto the floor.

A loud smack resounded through the place as she fell face down onto the cold and polished marble floor.

“Ow,” Maelyn winced as she slowly got up from the floor, her cheeks flushed. A few people snickered at her fall but quickly put on a serious expression when she glared at them.

Her aunt rushed forward to help her.

“Oh no, dear. Let me help you.” She said and offered her hand to Maelyn, whose cheeks were now flaming red with embarrassment.

Meanwhile, I only stood watching her for her next move.

My eyes flicked to the exit, but I doubted I would be able to run away without her trying to lunge at me again.

And it was good that there were eyes here because if she caught me outside these halls in the empty passageways, she would do much worse than just trying to tear my dress off.

This ruckus was starting to attract even more attention and Maelyn was furious that she was humiliated in front of the entire court.

She began to cry and tears began streaming down her face.

“This woman is humiliating me ever since I stepped inside. First she wore the silk made for royals, then she is accusing me when she is the one who keeps ogling my fiance. This is not fair.”

She sobbed in her aunt’s arms, who was patting her back soothingly.

“Relax Mae, stress is not good for you. We are here to see Prince Martin and enjoy the feast. I am sure he will ensure you are not disrespected here. I say we call him over here right now.”

The crowd nodded their heads in approval but nobody dared to disturb Martin

Maelyn looked in the direction of the King and her betrothed before muttering.

She said and looked back at me.

“Get that dress off. Now!”

“Have you lost your mind? You want me to strip in front of a room full of people?” I shouted back.

She was hellbent on getting me humiliated in front of people for some reason. Probably because she feared I would out her secret with Nicholas and wanted to bury it under this ruckus.

“I am not afraid of approaching the King and asking him myself” I said and turned around.

A shocked gasp left her lips as she saw me start walking towards King Aecidus seated on the opposite side of the table.

I was not sure what they were discussing, but I was not going to let my dignity be stripped off of me for a stupid girl and her petty mind.

I didn’t fear the King’s wrath. He could disregard me for all I care.

Thus, I began walking towards the throne of the King, and I heard somebody shout behind me.

“What are you waiting for? The King will kill us all if he learns his discussion was interrupted due to this stupid girl. Get her back here right now?

“Why? Not so brave to stand in front of the King despite being nobles and royal members of this court, are you?”

I said with gritted teeth, and the aunt and niece pair began to whisper something again.

“Let us get the King to solve this issue, and he will also tell you all if he thinks I am the Blessed One or not, easy right?”

I asked while looking directly at Maelyn. Her face suddenly paled, and she shrieked.

“Don’t let her get near the King. What are you guys waiting for? She is a scammer and will attack the King. We need to protect him.”

Her voice grew shrill, and she lunged at me again, but this time I didn’t duck. This time I stopped her with my arms and pushed her back.

She stumbled back and fell on her butt. So much for being the most beautiful girl in the kingdom. She was hideous on the inside and rotten to the core.

“What is going on?” A voice boomed from the far left, and everybody suddenly went still. I looked behind to see Killian had finally walked inside.

He had changed his clothes, now he was also in black, just like the rest of the courtiers. And everybody took a step back upon seeing him.

Maelyn began sobbing uncontrollably and pointed at me.

“She pushed me right now and made me fall. She has been disrespecting me for the past hour. Ask everyone.”

I gritted my teeth.

“You were trying to claw and tear my dress. And you are just an attention whore, when are you going to tell him that?”

Her aunt looked at me indignantly.

“Miss, whatever your name is, don’t use such words in the court and most certainly not for my niece.”

She looked horrified when we had used the word fucking, and she hadn’t batted an eye before.

Maybe she was being all preachy now that a prince was around to judge her.

Killian only took a step closer and stood beside me.

“Maelyn, do you have an issue with her dress?” He asked her calmly.

She nodded. “Of course, I do. How can she wear Elorin Silk when she is not anybody of importance yet? How can you just gift it to her? You state she is the Blessed One but none of us have seen her mark.”

He nodded at that thoughtfully.

And I only glared at him. Why was he being so calm and content instead of lashing out at her?
