I Bought the exiled king (by Natalie Winter) novel Chapter 81

Chapter 81

Valencia

I would usually drag myself back to the castle due to the dread of having to face Killian again, I hated his attitude on the ground, hated how he was being an asshole just to prove a point.

But yet again, someone completely unrelated to him had shared how much he had impacted their lives.

And I could see a pattern here already.

Mary also deeply respected him and would do anything to make him smile. And Sarah too spoke so highly of him.

People who were not related to him, people who were weak and had no saviorhe stood up for them against his own blood and kin.

He had never mentioned these stories to me, never let me even have an inkling of doubt about how caring for me and standing up for me must be a battle for him against his own.

What all must he have endured to save me?

Hips

I ran towards the room faster than ever before, eager to get an answer to my questions. Thanks to running around the castle grounds like a lunatic, my feet could move faster than before, so I was banging on the door under ten minutes, having climbed up the stairs and walked up and down numerous hallways already.

Killian!I shouted his name while banging my fists on the door.

But there was no answer from him.

After another round of banging, I just kicked at the door and it flung open. The quarters were empty. There was no sign of Killian.

But I did see a few drops of blood on the carpet.

Shit, was he hurt?

Worried, I ran towards the library, hoping to find him there. My legs were aching, but I still ran hard and almost ran into a statue, crashing it down in the

process.

Without a backward glance, I kept running and reached the library. Wasting no time, I threw its doors open as well, but there was no sign of him..

Killian!!I screamed at the top of my lungs, and my voice bounced off the library walls, that amplified it even further.

But I was met only with silence.

The bloodI had definitely not imagined it.

My fear combined with Sarah’s words from earlier began to gnaw at my heart while also holding it in a vice like grip.

The library was dark, and from the numerous windows all around the walls, I could see the moon shining brightly in the sky.

I wondered where to look for Killian for a second when I thought I saw some movement from the corner of my eye.

I thought I saw a few shadows move around the far edge of the castle, almost bordering on the edge of the Forbidden Forest.

They disappeared behind a patch of trees so ran towards the huge window making up for almost 1/4th of the wall and threw the panes open.

There was just a hint of soft light glittering in the dark and I could see shadows of a few men hunched down and another figure just sitting there.

My eyes widened and realization sunk in that it must be Killian being bullied by Martin or the others.

Thad to do something fast.

So instead of running back to the door to find my way out of the castle, I straightaway jumped down the window and was running towards that source of light faster than I could blink.

Thanks to Killian’s rigorous training, my legs could carry me despite the uneven terrain, the jagged rocks and branches and twigs sticking out at odd angles.

I had picked up quite some speed, so I shot my hand out to grip a nearby tree and dug my nails into it, slamming myself onto another tree.

A pained groan escaped my lips, but I pushed my hair away from my face and looked for the shadows I had seen earlier.

Theard a scream from my right, but it was cut off abruptly, and I took off in that direction. I didn’t have to men so quickly hid behind a bush.

run long this time and, heard voices of different

There seemed to be a few men holding torches, and they

were

circling someone or something. I quickly counted and realized they were more than

seven.

But what were so many people doing here late at night?

I crouched low and tried to hear their conversation.

The tallest of them said.

Quick! Show us that you can turn. Or I will throw you into the forest.

The others too began demanding the same from whoever it was lying in front of them.

Through the gaps between their legs, I saw a young looking boy, a teenager at best, crouched on the forest bed.

He was bleeding, his clothes soiled, and his face was a mask of terror.

Please, no, not in the Forbidden Forest,He wailed, but the tallest guy kicked him in the stomach hard.

If you dont prove that you are a werewolf soon, we will have to throw you to those creatures. You know the ritual.

The tall guy said, even as the little boy continued to sob and cry.

Iam a late bloomer. Mom said I will awaken my wolf later. Please, I belong to the gamma bloodline, I am a werewolf by blood.

He said, but the tall man only guffawed like a mad man and squatted down on his legs.

Then prove it. You know what they say, right? The creatures would drag the unworthy ones away from their beds to feed them to their little ones. But if we offer one, they leave us alone for a while. Since you have no family or pack left, you are this month’s offer to those creatures in the forest.

The boy let out a horrified wail, and I could see tears streaming down his face.

Please, dont kill me. I will do anything you say. Anything!

He said, but the man snapped at him.
