Barry returned home in his security uniform. He met Snow, feeding the koi fish.
“Hey, Snow, I'm home,” Barry said.
“Welcome home, brother.” Snow turned and was startled to see Barry donning a security uniform. “W-what are you wearing?”
Barry chuckled softly. “This is my uniform. There isn't much to do around here aside gardening. I hate being idle, so I convinced my new master to get me a part-time job.”
Snow raised an eyebrow. Barry could tell from her expression that she didn't approve.
“A security guard? Isn't he paying you enough to watch over his house?” Snow asked.
Barry knew he had to lie better than that or else the questions won't stop coming.
Snow wasn't stupid.
“Snow, I only have to work Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. I have Tuesdays, Thursdays, and the weekend to watch over his mansion. Look on the bright side. I'll have two sources of income so I can afford the items you need for school.”
Barry knew in due time, Snow would grow suspicious of his sudden wealth. He had to give her the illusion that he's earning decent enough to provide for her.
As long as he was always seen inside this expensive mansion, Laura and the Raven family would get nosey.
This security job was Barry's way of keeping Laura's nose out of his private life.
The Raven family would underrate him, and that's precisely what he wanted.
Snow sighed. “If you say so, then I'm happy for you. Just take it easy. You're always pushing yourself.”
Barry smiled. “I'll be careful. Now, about your school, I apologize for the slight delay. I'll be taking you there tomorrow.”
Snow should have begun her first day at Elite High School three days ago, but Barry had to set the date later as he had the Raven family to deal with.
“Tomorrow is Monday,” Snow looked worriedly at him. “Aren't you supposed to be at your new job?”
“I'm in the afternoon shift,” Barry ruffled her hair playfully. “Come on. Let's go shopping for your things. I want to make it up to you for the delay.”
* * * *
Elite High School has a strict policy that all items required for students must be purchased exclusively from only one department store—Crestfall Star.
Because Elite High School boarding program was tailored for the children of the world's elite families, this policy was mandatory for admission.
Barry and Snow entered the store together, marveling at how lavish and big the store was.
“It's huge,” Snow gasped, staring at the giant golden chandelier dangling from the coffered ceiling. “I've never seen anything like it before.”
Barry noticed a woman wearing a neat blue pencil skirt suit approaching them.
She wore a warm smile on her face. “Good afternoon. Welcome to Crestfall Star. I believe you're here to shop for items needed for Elite High School. I'm Emma. I'll be your guide.”
Barry glanced over her shoulder, realising there were eight other men and women dressed like her, waiting and watching.
These guy's job were to act as a guide to parents and families when they come shopping.
They receive a nice commission f*e depending on how many goods are bought as well as tips.
It was a superb way to make money, but the competition was cutthroat.
If you're not clever enough to spot a well-to-do client, you'll never make decent commission fees or tips.
Barry could tell at a glance that the other guides judged him the moment he stepped foot here.
