Carter felt that Lauren was gentle, considerate, and always looking for ways to help him rise to greater heights. More importantly, she was the children’s biological mother.

The thought stirred something in Carter.

He thought that maybe getting back together with Lauren wasn’t such a bad idea. At least everything would look proper on the surface. And the chaos in the house would finally stop.

Lauren said, “I was thinking that we could host the partners from Eryham at our place. Maybe we should do a thorough cleaning first.”

“I’ll leave it to you,” Carter replied.

Lauren nodded. “Okay!”

Once Carter disappeared into his study, the smile on Lauren’s face vanished. “Someone, come here. Take down all the photos and replace them with paintings.”

Photos?

The only photos hanging were Carter and Rhea’s wedding photo, along with a handful of family pictures featuring the kids.

Devan frowned. “Do those really need to be changed?”

Lauren slowly lifted her gaze. “Did I not make myself clear? Replace them with paintings. The place is full of family pictures. It’s overly sentimental.”

Devan thought to himself that Lauren was becoming increasingly duplicitous. One moment she was all gentle and soft, and now she was looking at him with a gaze as sharp as blades.

The maids didn’t dare disobey. Before long, every photo in the house was taken down and swapped out with generic art.

“Enlarge this one and hang it in the living room.” Lauren pulled out a picture of herself with Carter.

However, Devan didn’t take it. “A picture of you and Mr. Jamison?”

Lauren said, “Devan, you’re the butler. Your job is to follow orders. Why are you always questioning everything? If you can’t do it, I’ll find someone else to replace you.”

Just then, the doorbell rang. Devan didn’t want to engage with her, so he went to open the door without saying a single word.

Standing outside was a man he didn’t recognize.

“How can I help you?” Devan asked.

Logan had heard about what Rhea had been through over the past few years. He replied, “I’m here to deliver Ms. Ravelle’s personal item.”

“Mrs. Jamison’s item?” Devan immediately opened the door wide. “Please, come in.”

As Logan stepped inside, Lauren looked at him and asked, like the lady of the house, “Who are you here for?”

“Which one of you is Lauren Thayer?”

Scarlett criticized, “Hey, that’s incredibly rude. You don’t just call the lady of the house by her full

name.”

Logan’s expression didn’t change as he said, “I wasn’t informed that the lady of the house was surnamed Thayer. I’m just here for Lauren.”

Lauren leaned lazily back on the couch. “That’s me. What’s this about?”

Logan shot her a dangerous look.

On the way over, Nathan had given him specific instructions that he had to carry out.

Logan walked over, carrying a box in his hands.

Everyone watched as he opened it, curious to see what was inside.

But before they could react, Logan put on a pair of gloves, grabbed the item from the box, and hurled it straight at Lauren’s face.

The impact stunned her. Then came the shrieking. She screamed like she had gone mad as she flung the thing off of her.
