Lauren stayed there on her knees. Pain shot up from her joints, and her eyes were red and brimming
with tears.
20 minutes later, a figure approached, radiating an overwhelming chill that seemed to cut through
– the air.
“Get out of the way!”
Logan dodged just in time, narrowly avoiding Carter’s fist.
Carter rushed to Lauren’s side and immediately helped her to her feet. “Why are you kneeling to her?

Tears streamed down Lauren’s face as she shook her head. “I just wanted to beg Rhea to leave you alone. I can’t stand watching you suffer. I know she’s mad at me, and if kneeling is what it takes to calm her down, I’ll do it.”
She could barely stay on her feet.
Carter’s heart ached for her. “She’s not worth your kneeling. Losing that baby was fate. A woman as vicious as her is destined to end up alone.”
Rhea’s temple throbbed. She opened her eyes, and the first thing she saw was Carter holding Lauren and gently wiping away her tears, as if she were the love of his life.
Without warning, Logan raised his leg and kicked straight at them.
Carter staggered but shielded Lauren tightly.
A second later, Carter’s men swarmed in and started fighting Logan.
The staff at the postpartum recovery center were terrified. They tried to break it up, but they couldn’t even get close.
Carter’s eyes locked on Rhea. “Just because you know Nathan and George, you think that gives you the right to act like this? I regret ever trusting you with my children. If I leave them to you, you’ll turn them into nothing but trouble!”
His cruel words didn’t faze Rhea in the slightest.
She smirked. “At least I still know the basics of decency. Unlike you, bouncing between two women like you don’t even know who you are.”
Carter’s eyes blazed with rage. He stormed into the room and demanded, “Apologize to Lauren!”

He grabbed Rhea’s arm and tried to drag her out of bed. Rhea gasped.
Meanwhile, Lauren stood meekly behind Carter, playing the part of the fragile victim.
Just then, a loud thud echoed through the room, followed by her piercing scream.
“Carter!”

Carter was punched so hard that he crashed into the wall, and Lauren got knocked down too.
However, she didn’t care. She crawled straight to Carter in a panic.
Blood trickled from Carter’s mouth. One of his teeth felt loose as he slowly raised his head.
George pulled Rhea aside. His expression was calm, but his eyes burned with a quiet, deadly intensity.
“Mr. Jamison, you’re hitting a woman now?”
Carter steadied himself against the wall and retorted coldly, “Mr. Snider, do you always like meddling in other people’s family affairs? In case you forgot, Rhea and I aren’t divorced yet. Whatever happens between us is no one else’s business!”
The two men stood nearly eye–to–eye.
George’s lips curled into a smile. “No one else’s business? Got it.” He turned and instructed, “Get
that woman out of here.”
He meant Lauren.
Carter immediately blocked her. “Mr. Snider, is it really necessary to go after a woman?”
