Chapter 120
Carter paused for a moment, then found it almost funny.
Children at six years old were truly innocent. Everything they said came out so adorably.
How could Lauren not be sick? Who would invent a lie about having cancer for no reason at all?
“You probably misheard. Your mom’s friend must have been talking about someone else,” Carter
said.
Adrian scratched his brow. “I didn’t mishear.”
“Alright. Go to sleep now,” he urged the kids.
The siblings reluctantly returned to their rooms to prepare for bed.
Even after Carter left the kids‘ room, the corners of his lips carried a faint smile. He thought that children at this age were so pure.
As he descended the stairs, his gaze suddenly landed on a family photo of the four of them.
In the picture, Rhea gently held his arm. He remembered that before that photo was taken, Rhea had whispered softly in his ear, “Carter, I love you.”
Those words still lingered in his mind, and his vision blurred slightly at the memory.
“Mr. Jamison?” Devan saw him standing there motionless.
Carter snapped back to reality and instructed, “Prepare some food.”
He had seemingly developed the habit of drinking before sleep. Without Rhea, there was no one left to share a drink with him to unwind. Now, most of his stress originated from her instead.
“Mr. Jamison, you should really bring Mrs. Jamison back soon.” Devan sighed. “She’s not the type to be fickle. There must be some misunderstanding.”
Carter’s gaze darkened. He said stubbornly, “I don’t believe she’s that kind of person either. But I asked her, and she admitted it.”
Thinking about it twisted his chest with pain and anger.
“Maybe she said that in the heat of the moment. She might have only been upset because you paid too much attention to someone else. I heard the kids say that was her brother,” Devan said.
Carter sneered. “Brother? If she really had a brother like George, how could she have stayed in Colburn all these years without returning? And the Snider family doesn’t have a daughter.”

“Mr. Jamison, if Mrs. Jamison had really been involved with another man, would she have let you find out? Anyone normal would try to hide it.” Devan tried to reason with him, hoping that their family could stay intact.
After all, Rhea had given so much. Now that Carter had achieved success, Devan thought that it would be such a shame if she just left.
Carter’s hand holding the glass froze briefly. His mind seemed to absorb Devan’s words.
Another sleepless night awaited him.
On Saturday, after finishing a business meeting with the executives from Eryham, Carter returned home early.
Lauren followed, wearing an elegant dress. “I told you, Carter. This Eryham project is massive, and their reputation is stellar. There’s no way to lose. Compared to the projects in next week’s
investment forum, this is in a whole different league.”
She had been suggesting that Carter work with Eryham.
