Chapter 122
Even Aiden, Lauren’s closest friend, was siding with Rhea.
Tears streamed down Lauren’s face as she said, “I really have nothing left.”
After saying that, she left on her own, not letting Aiden accompany her.

Lauren arrived at the Henderson residence–Peter’s house.
“Lauren?”
Peter’s mother, Helen Vance, poured Lauren some tea. “Why didn’t you let us know you were back in Colburn? Where are you staying now? Do you need any help?”
It was truly a pity that the Jamison and Thayer families had fallen into decline. They had been close friends and felt the loss deeply.
“I’m doing fine, Mrs. Henderson. Carter arranged a place for me to stay, and I can see the kids occasionally. I’m already happy with that.”
Helen was taken aback. “Carter arranged a place for you?”
“Yes, he was worried that I’d have nowhere to go.”
“I see.” Helen stood up. “Peter, stay and chat with Lauren for a bit. I’ll have the kitchen prepare lunch. Lauren, stay for lunch, okay?”
Lauren smiled softly. “Thank you, Mrs. Henderson.”
After Helen left, Peter took a seat and asked, “What brings you here? Where’s Carter?”
Lauren bit her lip slightly. “He took the kids to see Rhea. It’s family day today. I had some free time, so I came to visit your parents.”
“Carter went to see Rhea?” Peter frowned. “Doesn’t he know what matters more?”
“Of course he does. Rhea is his wife. I’m just his ex. Don’t say that.”
Peter disagreed. “That’s nonsense! Without you, would he have such a beautiful family? Did those adorable kids just appear out of thin air?”
Lauren lowered her head and remained silent.
“You’re just too soft,” Peter said. “Carter was always meant to be yours. The kids are yours, too. You’re the rightful Mrs. Jamison! Wait here. I’ll call him back to be with you later.”

During lunch, Lauren busied herself helping Helen, earning repeated praise. By the afternoon, Lauren was asked to rest in a guest room.
Meanwhile, Helen took Peter aside, and her smile completely vanished.
“What’s wrong, Mom?”
Helen whispered a warning, “Stop trying to push Lauren and Carter together, understand?”
“Mom, what are you talking about? It’s only natural for her to be with him.”
“Don’t you know that he’s married?” Helen’s eyes glinted with anger. “Just don’t do anything.”
“So what if he’s married? Rhea doesn’t deserve Carter. She’s enjoying Lauren’s accomplishments! She’s unworthy of it!” Peter argued.
Helen retorted, “Your father’s first love came back to him once. Are you saying I should’ve stepped
aside?”
Peter was speechless for a moment. “T–That’s different!”
“Anyway, I’m warning you, don’t meddle in other people’s family affairs, or you’ll get yourself in trouble. And think a little before acting. Don’t let anyone use you. One more slip–up, and you’ll be cut off from your allowance!”
Helen gave him a sharp glare before leaving.
Peter was utterly exasperated. Used by whom? He couldn’t think of anyone.
