Chapter 139
Lauren was shifting the blame again.
However, Rhea didn’t give her the chance. “The only one who’ll look bad here is you. You’re forcing yourself into a world that isn’t yours. Don’t expect to escape the consequences.”
Giving Lauren the invitation wasn’t a sign of Rhea being generous or foolish.
Rhea figured that since Lauren wanted to humiliate herself, she had no reason to stop her.
Lauren’s tears fell immediately. “I know you have the honored guest invitation from Mr. Snider and Mr. Ravelle, but why humiliate me like this? I’ve done nothing against you. You like Mr. Jamison, and I never competed with you for him. Yet, you…”
The women around them, who were unaware that Rhea was married to Carter, blinked in surprise.
Rhea liked Carter?
Rhea’s cold gaze swept across them. The women lowered their eyes instantly, feigning ignorance and carefully hiding any curiosity.
“You’re really shameless.” Carolyn laughed out of frustration. “Aren’t you the one always clinging to Mr. Jamison?”
“Carolyn, you might be mistaken,” Liora interjected.
Carolyn paused, confused. She didn’t know what Liora meant by that.
Liora continued, “Ms. Thayer is supposedly Mr. Jamison’s secretary. It’s normal for a female secretary to care about her boss, isn’t it?”
She emphasized “female secretary” with precision.
The women immediately understood.
It seemed that this secretary was trying to seduce her boss. That was even more contemptible than a mistress climbing the ranks.
“Alright. Let’s head to our seats.‘
The women rose one by one.
It was clear that the daughters of the Snider and Ravelle families were targeting Lauren. They didn’t want to hear anything that could cause trouble for their own families.
Soon, only a few of them remained in the women’s lounge.

Rhea got up to her feet and walked past the main entrance.

As she passed Lauren, she tilted her face slightly, her smile dazzling. “When you cry to Carter later, remember to do it out of sight. Otherwise, your usual way of whining will draw the Donovans‘ disapproval.”
Lauren’s pride was nearly shattered.
Was Rhea… mocking her? Who did she think she was?
Carolyn shot Lauren a glance as she passed and scoffed.
The other women, all exuding nobility, gave Lauren nothing but cold looks as they passed.
Liora, who was last in line, took her time observing Lauren as if inspecting a piece of merchandise.
Lauren gritted her teeth, feeling extremely humiliated.
Liora said slowly, “This is probably your only chance to attend an event like this. Make sure you cherish it, Ms. Thayer.”
Lauren was the only one left in the women’s lounge. Her expression twisted, entirely unlike her
usual self.
After snapping back to herself, Lauren hurried out and straight to the men’s lounge.
“Lau-”
“Carter!”
