Chapter 144
A few minutes later, Lauren stepped out of the car.
Knowing that they were about to meet Liam, she felt a flicker of excitement. “Could Mr. Ravelle be interested in Jamison Group and looking to invest?”
Carter narrowed his eyes in suspicion. “But Nathan’s hostility toward me is unusually intense.”
Although he was proud, he wasn’t naive enough to think the whole world would automatically recognize his talent. He had enough sense for that.
Lauren speculated, “But Mr. Ravelle is Nathan’s father. Maybe he thinks that Nathan’s wrong and wants to reach out to you personally. After all, we just secured the Eryham project. Things are looking promising.”
The Eryham project was a huge opportunity. Any Colburn company that heard Jamison Group was involved couldn’t help but feel envious.
Evercorn Capital had investments across various sectors. Any company would be foolish not to want to work with a company that had such promising prospects.
At this thought, Lauren grew increasingly excited and couldn’t help stepping closer to Carter.
Carter and Lauren entered the reception room in the Donovan residence.
“Please wait here. Mr. Ravelle will be here shortly,” said Liam’s driver before leaving.
They waited until Lauren’s back stiffened. She whispered, “Why hasn’t he arrived yet?”
“Maybe he’s busy. Let’s wait a little longer.”
Carter had endured long waits before during his rebuilding years. Patience was still within him. But what neither of them expected was that they ended up waiting for four hours.
Carter could no longer stand it and stood to leave.
The expansive, empty living room greeted him.
Stanley, upon seeing them, was surprised. “Why are you two still here?”
All the other guests had already left, and the maids had just finished cleaning.
Carter replied, “Mr. Ravelle asked to meet me. Where is he?”
Stanley frowned. “Mr. Ravelle? He’s already left. He left with Mr. and Mrs. Donovan.”

Upon hearing that, Lauren couldn’t help but ask, “How is that possible? W–When did they leave?”
“About… two hours ago.” Stanley recognized Lauren as the woman Valerie disliked.
He withdrew his gaze and asked, “Shall I show you out?”
It was then that Carter realized he had been tricked.
Carter and Lauren left the Donovan residence and entered their car.
Carter’s expression was dark and brooding.
Liam had no reason to toy with him like this. Carter guessed that Nathan had deliberately arranged it.
Since Nathan was siding with Rhea, they teamed up to humiliate him!
Lauren could tell what he was thinking. “Carter, don’t take it personally. I can kind of understand Rhea. It’s like people who suddenly get rich. They tend to act a little flashy. Rhea came from an ordinary background. Suddenly mingling with powerful elites, she probably just wanted to show off.”
“She’s not elite. What’s there to show off? Acting superior with nothing to back it up won’t last long, “Carter snapped, genuinely annoyed.
