Chapter 167
Those who had heard the rumors weren’t surprised, but the uninitiated couldn’t help but be drawn into the spectacle.
Rhea continued, “My life used to be peaceful and happy until my stepchildren’s birth mother’s
return. She moved in as if she owned the place, took over my bedroom, and wore my dresses. Mr. Jamison constantly protected her. I couldn’t accept it, so I chose to divorce him.”
The crowd turned to Carter in shock. They couldn’t believe that he actually did something so shameless and that the woman had the nerve to speak here.
Lauren’s face went pale, and Carter’s expression darkened.
Rhea turned away, no longer looking at them. “I’m sorry if this ugly situation has affected anyone.”
After hearing this, Liam took a slow sip of water. His calmness was almost frightening.
Carter shot back, “Yes, this is our private matter. But since it’s been brought up, let’s be clear. My relationship with Lauren is innocent. What about you and Mr. Snider? Aren’t you living together?”
The scene grew even more chaotic at his words.
The crowd had mostly stepped back, leaving only a few of them in the center.
Such a scandal was almost unheard of in Draventh.
Liam was angry, but more than that, he felt protective of his precious daughter.
For the sake of this man…
“Innocent?” Rhea bit back her guilt toward her parents and asked, “Doesn’t Rainbow Maternity Hospital in Draventh have records of her miscarriage? You even had a baby together, yet you claim your relationship is innocent?”
Carter not only favored his mistress over his wife, but he even had a baby with her. It seemed that all the sacrifices of Rhea as the stepmother had been for nothing.
The people in the crowd questioned if he was even human. Their eyes turned toward Carter with growing disdain.
Carter was overtaken by anger. “That doesn’t justify betraying your family! We could have handled this privately, but you’re just despicable. You falsely claimed a noble lineage to gain an advantage. I will never support that.”
He was essentially explaining to Liam why he hadn’t defended Rhea earlier.

“Enough.” Liam’s voice wasn’t loud, but it silenced the hall.
Everyone knew that the chairman of Evercorn Capital, who also held a high–ranking position in Draventh, was furious.
Sharon smirked, eager to see Rhea’s downfall.
“I came here for business,” Liam said, not even looking at Carter.
“Right, right! Business!” Everyone hurriedly shifted back to discussions about work and industry
matters.
Yet, in the mind of the head of the medical team, Jamison Group was already off the list of potential partners.
Whether or not Carter had offended Liam, the way he treated Rhea made him utterly untrustworthy as a partner.
Carter and Lauren moved away to their seats.
“Calm down,” Lauren said, handing him a glass of water.
“She actually brought that up in public!” Carter’s eyes were dark red with fury. He had become the object of everyone’s scorn earlier.
Lauren couldn’t even bring herself to comfort him.
Rhea claimed that Lauren had a miscarriage at Holly’s hospital, even though she knew full well that Lauren hadn’t been pregnant.
Naturally, Rhea wouldn’t reveal what Lauren hadn’t suspected.
Rhea wanted to bury that secret and let everyone know that Carter had cheated while still married to her and even had a baby with Lauren.
She intended to ruin his reputation, starting from this very scandal.
