At 9:00 pm, Carter met with the mysterious Marcus in a car parked outside the villa neighborhood. Marcus was impressive–confident, sharp, and the kind of person whose wealth was evident at a

glance.

Marcus took a drag from his cigarette and smiled teasingly. “So, what do you think about my suggestion, Mr. Jamison?”

Carter returned to his senses. “You mean, you want me to find a way to drive a wedge between the Ravelles and the Sniders?”

Marcus raised an eyebrow in response.

Carter’s mind drifted off again. Marcus had promised to help him establish himself in Draventh in exchange for ensuring that the Ravelles and Sniders fell out with each other.

“If you were able to find me, you must know that I’m about to divorce Rhea,” Carter said.

How could he possibly make the two families turn against each other? Especially when Nathan and George were such close friends!

Marcus chuckled. “All you need to do is hold on to Rhea. Leave the rest to me.”

He believed that it was easy enough to get Nathan and George to become enemies. Rhea was a key player in this.

The Cain family’s position in Draventh these days was rather awkward. They couldn’t compete with the Ravelle family in politics or with the Snider family in business. If the Cain family wanted to rise, they needed to break up the alliance between the other two families.

Marcus had recently heard about George having feelings for Rhea. There was no way the Cain family would let a marriage between the Ravelles and Sniders happen.

Carter slowly clenched his fists and said, “My divorce from her is a done deal.”

Marcus laughed. “You’re not the sharpest tool in the shed, are you?”

Carter frowned, clearly annoyed.

Marcus continued, “As long as you two aren’t officially divorced, the Ravelle family won’t do anything to you openly. Once you’re in Draventh, you’ll be on your own. And when the divorce is final, do you think the Ravelles will let you off the hook?

“Rhea’s marriage to you is a disgrace to their family. They’ll never accept you. Now, I’m offering you a golden opportunity. Are you seriously going to throw it away?”

He said cajolingly, “If you agree, I’ll set you up with any factory you need in Draventh.”

Carter extended his hand and said, “Deal.”

Marcus laughed. “Here’s to a successful partnership.”

Just then, Carter asked, “How did you even find me?”

Marcus didn’t hide it. “I’ll be frank with you. Lauren asked me to give you a hand.”

Carter was surprised to hear that.

Marcus added, “I got into an accident while playing outside when I was eight. Her mother saved me.

So that was it.

He continued, “She didn’t sound too happy when she spoke to me. You two were once engaged, right? Couldn’t you have spent some time with her?”

Carter didn’t respond to that. He left shortly after, but he didn’t go home.

Marcus called Lauren as he watched Carter leave. “I’ve spoken to him. From now on, I don’t owe your family anything.”

“Thanks.” Lauren’s voice was hoarse. “And don’t worry. As long as I’m around, the Ravelle family won’t have it easy.”

So long as she could keep Carter close to her, Rhea would never know peace!

Rhea had exposed Lauren’s past in public. That itself was enough to make the latter hate her for the

rest of her life!
