Lauren wasn’t stupid. If she couldn’t stop Carter from trying to reconcile with Rhea, then fine. She wouldn’t do anything at all. She would let them get back together.
Once she showed up in front of Rhea with a newborn in her arms, she refused to believe that Rhea
could tolerate it.
So for now, she would do nothing but take care of her pregnancy and pray for Carter’s quick success.
“If he’s doing well, I’ll be doing well. And naturally, so will my child. There’s no need for me to act now,” Lauren said.
Holly didn’t say anything further and stepped out of the ward.
Right outside, she ran into Carter, who was returning.
He said, “Ms. Sanders.”
“Yes, Mr. Jamison.”
“Can your hospital run cancer tests too?” Carter asked.
Holly’s lashes fluttered. “I sent her pathology specimen overseas for testing. I’ve known Lauren for years, after all. She feels more comfortable being treated here. You know how patients can be. Their mental states are fragile.”
“May I see Lauren’s medical records?”
Holly smiled. “Of course. Just one moment.”
Soon, she returned with a document envelope. “This is Lauren’s complete medical history, from her first diagnosis until now. You can go through them.”
Behind Carter, Glen–who had just sent Arielle home and rushed back–frowned.
He couldn’t believe how fast Lauren had acted. It seemed that she had already managed to produce a full set of fake records in just a few days.
“Mr. Jamison, could these kinds of records be falsified?” He subtly hinted to Carter.
Carter flipped through the files. The dates matched, the hospital names were there, and even the surgery times were logged. Every detail lined up.
So Lauren really had cancer. She had only left him and the kids because she had no choice.
He regretted ever doubting her. He countered, “Who would lie about having cancer for no reason?”

Glen opened his mouth but didn’t know what to say.
Even if he spoke up, Carter probably wouldn’t believe him. After all, Lauren had already prepared the fake medical records.
After some hesitation, Glen tried to approach it from another angle. “Medical science is advanced now. Maybe we should get a second opinion at another hospital. It could have been a misdiagnosis. Honestly, Ms. Thayer seemed in good health recently.”
But Carter rejected that idea on the spot. “No. That would make it too easy for the Ravelles to find out. Staying here is safer.”
Glen had no choice but to fall silent.
Carter looked up, as if sensing something. “You’re acting like something’s on your mind.”
Glen shook his head. “No… It’s just that most cancer patients I’ve seen get weaker and lose weight. But Ms. Thayer doesn’t look like that. She has even put on some weight.”
Carter frowned.
Just then, his phone rang. Grace had called to inform him that the gifts for Liam were ready.
He had to pay a visit to Liam.
Carter told Glen to return the medical records, then he headed to Lauren’s ward.
“Carter.” Lauren, who hadn’t been in the best mood, lit up with a bright smile the moment she saw him. Even her eyes shimmered.
That small detail gave Carter a sense of satisfaction. “Lauren, I have something to take care of. I’ll be leaving for now.”
“Where are you going?” she asked. “When will I see you again?”
He didn’t want to bring Rhea up, so he came up with an excuse. “I’m meeting some partners. I’ll come by when I have time.”
Lauren nodded. “Alright. Be safe.”
As soon as he left, her smile vanished.
Holly walked in. “I asked around. He’s gone to the Ravelle residence. It looks like he’s planning to visit Liam.”
Carter was visiting his father–in–law?
