With the bodyguard’s support, Carter tried standing and taking a few steps. He said, “Turn them down. I won’t be returning to Colburn, so there’s no need for me to meet them.”

“I’ll have many business engagements these days. I’ll have to trouble you and Aiden to look after Adrian. Once I get through this busy period, I’ll thank you both in person.”

“What’s going on?” he asked.

Adrian blinked, watching Carter closely. He wasn’t too young to understand.

It seemed that the evil woman was pregnant. This meant that she was carrying Carter’s child. He and Arielle were about to have a younger sibling!

Did that mean Carter would be with that evil woman again?

“Dad…” Adrian’s voice was hoarse. “Do you not like me and Arielle anymore?”

Carter rushed to his bedside. “No, you misheard. Get some rest.”

After saying that, he left the ward. Peter and Aiden followed him down the hall to the smoking lounge.

“What did you just say?”

Carter lit a cigarette, feeling on edge. “Lauren’s pregnant. They discovered it while checking her for signs of cancer recurrence. She says she wants to forgo treatment and keep the baby.”

“That’s insane,” Peter shot back. “If Rhea finds out, you’ll have no chance with her again!”
