Chapter 330
Carter had been in such a hurry that he hadn’t even brought a gift. He walked into the Ravelle residence empty–handed.
The moment he stepped inside, his gaze swept across the living room.
George wasn’t there.
Instant relief washed over him. It seemed that the rumors were indeed fake.
They had almost made him lose his composure.
Carter recollected himself and addressed Liam. “Liam.”
He then glanced at Nathan. “Nathan.”
Nathan simply stared at him.
Meanwhile, Liam gestured. “Take a seat.”
Carter sat down.
Seeing him sitting in the seat George had just left, Nathan felt annoyed. He thought that George was far more pleasing to the eye than Carter.
“Liam, everything’s settled. Lauren and I have nothing to do with each other anymore.” Carter kept a low profile, acting meek in front of Liam.
Rhea was in the sitting room nearby, out of Carter’s view.
She withdrew her gaze and checked a message from George. It read, “Since you gave me a title, don’t get involved with Carter anymore. I’ll come get you once I’ve taken care of things.”
Come get her? To do what?
Rhea felt none of the previous irritation. Instead, a sense of ease settled over her.
At the tea table in the living room, Liam leaned back. “Absolutely nothing?”
Carter nodded. “That’s right.”
“But I heard that you gave Lauren a bank card. What’s that for?” Liam’s gaze was sharp with frost.
Carter’s heart skipped a beat. He didn’t dare lie. “I gave her the money to keep her from causing trouble.”
“But the reporters have pictures. They’ll claim that you can’t bear to leave her. Carter, do you really

know your place?” Liam finally revealed his true feelings.
He continued, “When Rhea married you, you had nothing. You made her suffer and live a hard life as a stepmother. And now, the second time around, you still show up empty–handed. Do you think we aren’t good enough for you, Carter?”
At that moment, Liam was like a lion protecting its cubs. He didn’t bare his fangs, yet his presence was dangerously imposing.
A chill ran down Carter’s spine. “Liam, I came in such a hurry to see Rhea that I forgot. I meant no disrespect to you or Ruby!”
Suddenly, Liam’s icy expression melted into a kind smile.
Carter exhaled, forcing a smile. “Liam…”
Liam studied him for a long moment, his gaze so heavy that Carter struggled to breathe.
“Carter, do you really think the past can just be forgotten?” Liam asked.
