“What’s your plan?” Carter asked.

Kate glanced out the window. “Rhea will be traveling with George after the New Year. What you do then is up to you. I’ll give you their flight info and the city they’ll be staying in.”

Carter gritted his teeth. This time, he was cautious. “Do you really think that the three of us can take on those two families?”

“That’s not the point. The point is to drive a wedge between the Snider and Ravelle elders. Once their relationship sours, Rhea won’t marry George. Her personality won’t allow it. George cares a lot about her, so you know what to do, right?”

All they needed was for George to think that Rhea hadn’t completely let go of Carter. That alone would be enough.

Kate stood and left the hospital.

Draventh was colder than usual this year, and the snow fell heavier than ever.

“Rhea, you shouldn’t have become my enemy,” Kate thought to herself.

After leaving the hospital, Kate didn’t go home. She asked her team, “Where is Lauren?”

“Locked in a hotel room by a foreigner.”

“Which hotel?”

“Ms. Pearson,” the staff greeted.

Smiling, she stepped into an elevator.

The receptionists whispered among themselves, “Ms. Pearson is so graceful and elegant. I don’t believe what people are saying. How could someone like that hurt her best friend?”

“I agree. Ms. Pearson and Mr. Snider are a much better match. How could a strong, charismatic man and a gentle, elegant woman go wrong? Ms. Ravelle, on the other hand, has just too many scandals. Ugh.”

In the hotel room, Lauren shrank into the corner of the bed when she heard the door open.

When she saw Kate, she remembered her. “Rhea’s friend?”

Kate maintained her smile. “Yeah.”

She sat and looked at Lauren. “I used to be. But not anymore.”

Lauren was puzzled. “What are you doing here? Are you working with that pervert?”

Kate’s voice was soft and gentle without hostility as she said, “I’ll help you get out of here. But from now on, you’ll be fully loyal to me. Deal?”

Yet, there was a commanding edge to her words.

Be loyal to her? Who did she think she was?

“You misunderstood.”

Kate rested her hands on her knees. “Like you, I don’t want Rhea to get her way. The enemy of my enemy is my friend. Work for me, and you’ll have everything. You just need to follow orders.”

Lauren thought of that utterly twisted Andrew and glanced around the room, which seemed like a nightmare. She gritted her teeth.

A month later, Liora and a few friends visited Rhea on Christmas Eve. They had a small gathering at her home.

Valerie said, “Kate’s birthday is tomorrow.”
