Chapter 378
By noon, after David got off work, he returned home. Janae told him, “Mrs. Pearson has lung cancer.”
David was surprised. “The Pearson family from Draventh?”
“Who else?”
Karla said, “I haven’t agreed to treat her yet.”
Having just heard Janae talk about her in–laws, she understood that the Pearson family was now at odds with the Ravelle family, and the conflict ran deep.
Normally, saving a life was a noble act, especially for doctors whose mission was to reduce suffering and bring peace. But thinking about all the hardships Rhea had endured made Janae furious.
“This is your work. I won’t interfere,” she said.
Karla spread her hands. “If I take the surgery on…”
David asked, “Can she be treated?”
Karla hesitated. “Judging from the condition I’ve heard about, it doesn’t look great. I’ll need the lab results to know for sure.”
David lowered his gaze. “You should perform the surgery. Let Janae know when it’s happening.”
Conflicted between medical ethics and personal grudges, he thought of a way to handle it smoothly.
That afternoon, David returned to the Ravelle residence.
“Mom, Dad,” he greeted.
Rhea and Nathan hadn’t returned yet, so only a few elders were home. Coincidentally, Arthur had come back that day.
“Evie has cancer,” David announced.
Ruby gasped. “She’s at your hospital?”
“No. Kate contacted Janae’s cousin, Karla, to ask her to take on the treatment.”
Liam and David exchanged a look. The brothers had the same thought simultaneously.
“Then let’s pick a time and go see her,” Liam said. “Invite the Levines, the Sniders, and those familiar. Let’s all go visit her.”
By 10:00 am on the ninth, most households in Draventh were still in the festive mood. Yet a group of people had already gathered, getting into their cars and heading toward the oncology hospital.
As soon as they arrived at the hospital, news began spreading throughout Draventh.
Within an hour, everyone knew that Evie had cancer, and several families, led by the Ravelle family, had gone to visit her.
Many were surprised, and some were admiring.
Despite the conflict, the Ravelle family didn’t hold a grudge and went to support the Pearsons.
Even Charlie and Lara went. They spared no effort in helping the Pearsons find competent doctors and connect with top hospitals, showing the seriousness of their concern.
