Chapter 412
With that, Lauren turned to leave.
Mia stopped her. “Why are you leaving? You did nothing wrong!”
Carter watched the performance icily from the bed. All he felt now was pain in his heart, head, and everywhere else!
Lauren had used her horrible acting and tricks on him countless times. How had he never realized how fake they were?
He smiled self–deprecatingly. At the time, Rhea had probably thought he was a blind fool.
He said, “Go ahead. I won’t see you out.”
Lauren faltered, and her expression froze.
Mia frowned. “Carter, what are you doing?”
He ignored her, keeping his gaze trained on Lauren. “You can stop acting like you’re so fragile, as if you’ve been bullied. Nobody asked you to come to the hospital, and no one expects you to care for the kids. You insisted on coming here to be shamed, so you have only yourself to blame for being pathetic.”
Pathetic?
Mia’s eyes widened in shock. Only a few months had passed since she had last seen Carter and Lauren. So, why were they so hostile now?
Lauren was hurt and humiliated by Carter’s final remark. Her face burned, but it was out of anger.
She lost control of herself and cried, “I know you resent me for being with that foreigner, but you abandoned me first! You wanted to go back to Rhea! What was wrong with me trying to survive? Or did you expect me to sleep in the streets?”
Carter’s blood boiled. “You lied to me about having cancer, making me break Rhea’s heart! You only wanted to climb the social ladder, didn’t you? The moment I fell from grace, you vanished without a trace! A tramp like you only deserves to end up in the bed of some old coot! To think you had the nerve to compete with Rhea–how can you even compare?”
Mia was stunned. What? Lauren had lied? She didn’t have cancer? And she had abandoned Carter a
second time?
“What’s going on here?” Tyler and Leah came over when they heard the shouting.
Lauren’s pale face flushed blotchy with rage. She glared at Carter.

He yanked the IV needle out of his hand, ignoring the blood that spurted. His eyes were bloodshot as he roared, “If not for you, I wouldn’t have lost Rhea! I wouldn’t have lost my cozy, happy family!
“You lied to me, played me, and used me over and over! And how dare you bring up the kids! Why didn’t your parents take you with them when your family went bankrupt?”
Something snapped in Lauren. She shrieked, “You’re the one who should go to hell! You think I wanted to give birth to those two ingrates? Without them, I would still be the Lauren Thayer I was meant to be! You’re the one who caused all of this!”
Tyler and his family were stupefied. Why did Lauren seem like a completely different person?
“Someone, get in here!” Carter was so furious that he felt like his chest would explode with rage.
Glen ran in.
“Take her to the police station! I want to sue her for fraud and abandonment!” Carter glared at Lauren like she was his sworn enemy.
