Chapter 469
As soon as Kate returned to her desk, her colleague seated on her left, Gisselle Bowman, noticed her unusual expression and asked with concern, “What’s with that look? Did something happen?”
Gisselle was the translation team member who supported and sympathized with Kate the most, as her best friend and ex–husband had also betrayed her.
She was devastated then. In her sorrow, she made the painful choice to end her almost five–month pregnancy. Deeply wounded, she left Dalea, steering clear of romance and dedicating herself to her work.
She deeply empathized with what Kate had gone through and had long labeled Rhea as a malicious woman bound to face karma.
Kate exhaled deeply. This time, her worried expression wasn’t an act. It was genuine.
For almost 30 years, Kate’s life had been mostly smooth.
Dealing with George and the events of the past six months were the only things that had truly stressed her. Aside from that, she had never felt any real pressure, especially from work.
Before all this, she had spent her days casually writing articles or organizing special documents for certain schools, never worrying about money.
Now, forced to earn on her own, the workload itself was stressing her.
There was so much translation to do that even if she worked nonstop, she wouldn’t be able to finish it all by the following morning.
Kate couldn’t afford to offend Annie. She needed to use her to threaten Rhea’s position.
And if she failed to complete the task from Rhea, the latter would likely complain to George or somehow use it as an excuse to give her a hard time.
Kate herself hadn’t even realized she had begun instinctively reading malice into Rhea’s actions.
“Ms. Ravelle gave me all of this and wants it done by tomorrow morning before work.”
“You just received work from Ms. Levy, too, didn’t you?”
Kate lowered her head. “Yeah.”
The colleagues sitting nearby immediately assumed that Rhea was picking on Kate.
Reflecting on that malicious woman’s past deeds, they eagerly offered their help. “My workload isn’t heavy right now. I can take some of yours.”

“I finished mine too. Give me some as well.”
“Send some to me. We’ll all work together and get it done by tomorrow. Don’t let her think she can walk all over you.”
Kate pressed her lips together, her eyes shining with gratitude. “Thank you all. I’m really… so grateful.”
Her eyes glistened as if she were on the verge of tears.
Gisselle’s heart ached for Kate. “She’s using her position to take revenge and make things difficult for you. Her character is seriously questionable. Mr. Frost can’t stand people like that. Bring it up at the monthly meeting. You don’t need to be afraid.”
“Yeah! Mr. Frost would never tolerate such behavior at Solaris Ventures.” 11
While the small discussion continued, several other project team leaders came and went from the office.
