Rhea understood Lyla’s unspoken question. She said, “The commission is yours.”
Who would leave their family and home country if not for financial gain and new opportunities?
Rhea didn’t need to compete over commissions. She always remembered why she came here–to grow independent, gain experience, and expand her network.
So she sorted through the projects she had been monitoring recently and assigned different team leaders to handle each one.
20 minutes later, the leader of Project Team Three left the office holding a project proposal. Excitement bubbled inside him.
The leader of Project Team Six also walked out expressionless with a proposal in hand.
Both men were masters at concealing their emotions. This led the translation team members to assume that Rhea had criticized all the team leaders.
“She’s already clashing with the team leaders. That’s not very smart. I bet she’ll be walking on eggshells at this company.” Gisselle sneered.
Kate, still busy with the last of the translation files, looked up at that. “What do you mean,
Bowman?”
Ms.
Gisselle explained, “Victor Osborn, the leader of Project Team Six, is famous for being strict and fair. Seeing the look on his face just now, something tells me a fight’s about to break out.”
That was new information for Kate.
She smiled faintly. “Thanks for helping me today. I’ll buy all of you dinner after work later.”
“No, Kate. You’ve already spent enough that day. Let’s split the bill today,” one colleague said.
“It’s fine. I don’t spend much anyway. It’s settled. I’ll book the restaurant, and we can have a few drinks together.” Kate decided.
“Thanks, Kate!”
“Thanks for treating us, Kate!”
After being treated to meals repeatedly, the translation team members grew even fonder of Kate. They saw her as pitiful, delicate, and in need of their protection.
So what if Rhea was the project director? She could be replaced if necessary.
Rhea had spent the entire morning in the office and didn’t show up in the afternoon.

When Gisselle found out that Kate had skipped work, she scoffed and rocked in her chair. “Well, look at that. Being a highborn lady sure has its perks, huh? Skipping work whenever she feels like it.”
Kate said, “Maybe she had something to handle or went out with her fiance. She’ll probably be back soon. She’s not that irresponsible.”
“You’re the only one defending her. If you hadn’t trusted her so blindly, could she have stolen your fiance?” Gisselle shot at her.
The other colleagues agreed. “Yeah, Kate. You really need to change your mindset. Don’t assume that everyone has good intentions. But then again, your parents are highly educated scholars, so it’s only natural you were raised to be refined and courteous, with no sharp edges.”
Kate sighed softly. “She and I have been friends for more than 20 years. I won’t hold a grudge.”
