Devan cared about Rhea and couldn’t bring himself to lie to her.

Upon hearing that, Rhea burst out laughing. She wondered how Carter could be this selfish.

“Thank you, Devan,” she said.

“It’s nothing, Mrs. Jamison. Just please don’t let it get to you.”

“I want to ask you for a favor.”

“Anything you need, Mrs. Jamison. Just say the word.”

Rhea paused for a moment, then calmly asked, “Can you take some photos of him with Lauren? Anything that shows how close they are.”

Carter had crossed the line too many times, without an ounce of shame. She wasn’t just going to sit

back and take it.

Taking down Jamison Group wasn’t enough. She wanted proof. The kind that would ruin his reputation in Colburn.

Forget that “part on good terms” nonsense. Her family values and views on survival had never prepared her to be a saint.

“I’m on it,” Devan said without hesitation.

“Don’t worry. If you don’t want to stay in Colburn after I divorce him, I’ll take you to Draventh.”

Rhea hadn’t forgotten all the ways he had looked out for her over the years.

Devan was moved. “Thank you, Mrs. Jamison.”

After she hung up, George looked at her and asked, “When’s the surgery?”

Rhea looked up. “Sometime within the next week.”

“Have you found a place to recover yet?”

“Not yet. I’ll probably check into a postpartum recovery center in Colburn.”

A proper postpartum recovery was necessary after an abortion. Risking her health for Carter wasn’t

worth it.

When she woke up the next morning, George was already gone, but she did receive a text from him.

“The maids made you breakfast. It’s in the kitchen. I didn’t want them to wake you. You can eat by yourself. I’m traveling with Nathan. Call me if anything comes up.

There really wasn’t a single maid in sight.

After she finished her breakfast and washed the dishes, Rhea left and headed back to Colburn.

At Scott Group, Louie beamed when he saw Rhea walk in. “Ms. Ravelle!”

She handed him a slip of paper and instructed, “Get in touch with these people. I’ve already spoken

to them for you.”

Louie took it and asked, “Aren’t these two Carter’s business partners?”

Rhea smiled. “Are you scared to steal them?”

Louie paused, then straightened up. “Why would I be?”

He wanted to steal every last partner Carter had. He wouldn’t care even if he got called names. What he wanted was for Carter to fall, for his company to thrive, and for his employees to get the raises they deserved.

Rhea saw that fire in him.

After a moment’s hesitation, she said, “There’ll be some companies coming in from Eryham for a bidding round soon. I’d advise you to stay far away.”

Eryham was a city that ranked just below Draventh.

Anyone working with them was bound to make a fortune. But if Rhea said so, it was definitely a trap.

“Alright. Got it!” Louie took every word Rhea said as gospel. “By the way, do you need a ride somewhere?”
