Chapter 8
Clarissa’s face twisted in horror. “Please–don’t do this! You’ll ruin me!”
The young doctor dropped to her knees, pleading frantically until she was shaking and blood trickled from a cut on her forehead.
“Ms. Hawthorne, I’m begging you I was wrong. I know I crossed the line. Please, just this once. I’ve got elderly parents and two kids depending on me. If I go down, they go with me.”
I arched a brow, lips curling into a cold smirk. “If you cared about your family, you’d never have pulled that stunt in a white coat.”
I turned to my security team. “Take them away. Handle them the same way you did Vanessa’s sister.”
The guards didn’t hesitate. Both women were dragged out screaming.
Vanessa’s composure finally shattered when she saw her sister being taken away. She rushed over to Aiden and started pounding weakly on his arm. “That’s my sister! You can’t just let them do this–make them stop!”
Aiden rolled his eyes and shook her off with irritation. “Your sister disrespected my wife. She got what she deserved.”
Vanessa dropped to the floor like her legs had given out. Her eyes were glassy with disbelief. “Aiden… don’t you remember what you promised me? I’m carrying your baby!”
Aiden placed his hands behind his back, towering over her like she was nothing. “Once the kid is born, you’re useless to me now. I’ll have the child adopted into my wife’s name. Until then, keep your mouth shut and stay in line.”
That was the last straw.
Vanessa’s face contorted with fury as she lunged to her feet and slapped him across the chest. “You heartless bastard! What am I to you, some throwaway pawn?!”
She raised her hand again, but before she could land a hit, Aiden slapped her so hard she staggered back and crumpled to the floor, blood trailing from the corner of her lips.
Clutching her stomach, Vanessa’s face turned ghostly white. Her voice cracked in panic. “Aiden… my belly… it hurts so bad. Something’s wrong. Please–get me a doctor!”
Aiden barely spared her a glance. “Don’t think you can play me with that baby. You’re faking it, trying to guilt me with a miscarriage scare? Pathetic.”
Vanessa’s hands trembled as she clung to her abdomen, sweat dripping down her face. She reached up and grabbed Aiden’s hand desperately. “I’m not faking! Please, the baby–if something happens, it’s on you! You already lost Celeste’s child. If mine dies too, you’ll be left with nothing!”
That gave him pause.
