Flashback: Age, 16 ~

“Well, this is a bit awkward, isn’t it?” My father asked with an awkward laugh.
We’d been driving for about 30 minutes now. It was pretty silent the whole time. We didn’t spend much time in the parking lot after I was introduced to him. Tusk had transferred my three suitcases from their car to my father’s. After that, my father said that it was a long drive home. Mom and Tusk didn’t really argue. They hugged me tight and… then I was gone.
“Maybe a little,” I replied quietly from the passenger seat.
“It’ll get better with time,” he replied.
I turned my head to look at him, really look at him. I don’t see the resemblance between us really at all. His eyes are a lighter color blue than mine. I can see that we have the same nose, but other than that… I look nothing like this man. Honestly, I was kind of shocked that this guy was my father.
Firstly, he looks nothing like I’d expect. Granted, Mom had never dated before Tusk. Not that I know about anyway. My father is a very different looking man from the men at the club. They’re all bada.ss, leather, tattoos, and piercings. My father is the complete opposite. He’s very clean–cut, shaved, freshly showered, hair perfect, nice clothes. Even his car is spotless. Maybe he’s just a neat–freak?
Secondly, my father seems… nice. He has a friendly smile and kind eyes, but there’s something… sort of strange about him. Maybe it’s just the nerves, but it’s really hard to picture Mom with a guy like this. Not only is he literally the exact opposite of all I’ve ever known or seen, but something about him is just… strange.
Mom never told me much about my father. There were a few times I’d ask when I was growing up. She always just told me things like he loved me, but couldn’t be around, or that

he just wasn’t ready to be a dad. I only ever accepted those answers and never pushed, because it seemed like Tusk, or Blaze, or Bones, or someone from the club was right there to help me forget.
I tried to ask Mom more about what happened between them when I found out I was going to live with him for the next two years. She didn’t tell me much. She said that we could talk about it another time, after I got to know my father more. Like the submissive person I am, I accepted her answer.
“C–can I ask you something?” I asked nervously.
“Of course you can!” He replied with a little too much enthusiasm.
“Uhm, M–Mom never told me… w–what happened between you two,” I said. “I was wondering if you would tell me?”
“Well, your mother and I dated for a very long time, and I was very much in love with her,” he told me. “I thought we loved each other. But then I came home one day, and she was gone. Took you with her. By the time I found you both again, years had gone by. It’s taken me all this time to fight for joint custody of you.”
I furrowed my brow in confusion.
“Wait, again?” I asked. “What do you mean again?”
My father turned his head for a split second to give me a sad look.
“Yes, sadly she ran away with you when you were about a year old,” he said. “Fell in love with our pool–boy, and they moved to Florida for a while.”
Florida? A year old? Pool–boy?
“I’m confused,” I replied, shaking my head. “That… doesn’t sound like Mom and-”
“Your mother must put on a show for you,” he interrupted me to say.
“But we never lived in Florida,” I mumbled, still confused. “Plus-”
“Blythe, what I told you was the truth,” he cut me off again, his voice tight with frustration. “No more talking about that. It was a terrible time of my life. I just want to focus on getting you home.”
Home…?
I didn’t dare ask. Not with the way he just snapped at me. Especially with that tone he used. I didn’t want to frustrate him more, but I couldn’t stop thinking about what he said.

Mom has tons of photos of me from the day I was born. She even still has my ultrasound pictures. There were a lot of me, some of me and Mom, and some of me with some of her friends over the years. Not one time did I see a photo of me with my father. There weren’t any of me in some fancy home with a pool–boy either. Mom and I always lived in tiny places, sometimes even with roommates. I know we never lived in Florida.
And a pool–boy? I find it hard to believe that my mom would ever just up and leave someone, let alone with a pool–boy. She’s not that kind of woman. If she was, wouldn’t she have dated more all these years? I mean, if that is true, what happened to said pool–boy? And why would she tell me now that it’s important to know my dad if she took me away from him all those years ago?
Unless he was right and Mom is a better li.ar than I thought…
No,
that can’t be true. I know things are tense with me and Mom right now, but I know her better than anyone. My momma would never do anything like that. It just doesn’t make sense in my head.
But why is my dad lying about it?
Maybe he just doesn’t want to look like a bad guy in my eyes. Maybe he didn’t want me before now, but doesn’t want me to hate him for it. I suppose I could understand that.
I guess I’ll find the truth out some day.

“We’re about 10 minutes out,” my father said. “You excited?”
I nodded, but I was a little confused to be honest. I thought he said it was a long drive? It’s only been a few hours. Maybe he had things to do?
I peered out the window as we pulled into a parking lot. I was extremely confused as my father pulled around to the back of the building. He parked his car with a few others that were there. Then he hopped out without a glance my way. Slowly, I got out of the car and stared up at the white building.
“Is this a… church?” I asked.
It’s huge. Like the biggest church I’ve ever seen. It’s pure white and looks way too clean. There’s a giant cross out front, but no other signs anywhere. Something about it seemed… kind of off.
“Yes, this is Silent Divine,” my father said. “Could I see your phone for a moment, darling?” Still staring at the church, I mumbled sure and handed my dad my phone. It was my first

The next thing I knew, my dad grabbed my arm and started dragging me to the backdoor of the church. I noticed cameras all around the place, which I thought was weird. Only because there were a lot. Like every foot, there was a camera, and it looked like they went all around the building.
“W–why are you dragging me?” I asked, stumbling after my father.
“Because, now that you’re here and now that I have your only source of communication to the outside world… I don’t have to put on an act anymore,” he said. “Though, I was having a bit of fun improvising.”
“W–what?” I stuttered.
My father threw open the door to the church and tossed me inside. I smacked right into another large form. I looked up just as the man grabbed my wrists. He was a young adult, maybe in his mid–twenties, with blonde hair and blue eyes. He looked clean–cut like my dad, but I didn’t like the way he was looking at me.
“Mason, is the physician ready?” My father asked as he closed the door behind us.
“Yes, sir,” Mason replied, licking his lips while he looked at me.
“Ph–physician?” I asked.
“You’re going to be examined,” my father said.
“E–examined? F–for what?” I asked.
“Well, to see where you rank here,” he replied.
“Wh–where I rank?” I stuttered as fear started to coil up my spine.
“Let’s put it this way, babe,” Mason said gleefully. “This examination is gonna tell us if we all get to pass you around… or if we prep you for a member.”
What the heck does that mean?
“For your sake, considering why you’re even here in the first place, you better hope you’re still a virgin,” my father hissed in my ear.
I wanted to ask what my virtue had to do with anything, but I didn’t get the chance. My father ripped me from Mason’s hold and pulled me down a hall. Mason was right behind us, I could practically feel him staring a hole in my back. I tried to look around, but panic was quickly rising in me. I was dragged through many halls, took many turns, and even went down a flight

Before I knew it, I was tossed into a random room. It was small with an office set up. There was a couch in the corner where a male doctor in a white lab coat was waiting. He stood when we walked in. Mason followed us in too and locked the door behind him.
Fear was clogging my throat and I was trembling.
