Karma Doesn’t Sleep: The Revenge Queen Rises novel Chapter 246

Salmeron Estate Gardens

Today, Amelia skipped her usual stop at the main house to say hello to Mrs. Salmeron and the rest of the family. Instead, she took a detour around the mansion and headed straight for the old lady’s private cottage.

The moment she walked in, she spotted Mrs. Salmeron reclining on a chaise in the sitting room, absentmindedly rolling prayer beads between her fingers. Tara stood beside her, gently fanning her to keep her cool.

Clive was quietly sitting on Mrs. Salmeron’s other side, his eyes downcast as he peeled fresh lotus seeds. His long, graceful fingers moved quickly, breaking open the pods, pulling out the tender white seeds, and setting aside the little bitter hearts on a small porcelain plate.

“Amelia told me the bitter part in the middle is actually good for you,” Clive said, his voice soft and even, carried easily on the evening breeze. “It’s supposed to help you sleep and calm your nerves, even if the taste is terrible.”

Amelia paused for a second, then walked over.

“Grandma,” she called softly.

Both Mrs. Salmeron and Clive looked up. Amelia, though, didn’t even glance at Clive. She just smiled and went straight to Mrs. Salmeron.

Clive watched her, his gaze trailing down her slender neck to her delicate collarbones—bare, without any jewelry.

He frowned a little. She’d been so happy when he gave her that diamond necklace, and now she wasn’t even wearing it? Not even a little show-off?

He couldn’t help but remember that year at the arcade, when he’d won her a cheap stuffed animal from the claw machine. She’d been over the moon, clipped it to her bag, and carried it everywhere like it was the best thing in the world.

Back then, a silly little toy could make her smile for weeks. Now he’d given her a diamond necklace worth nearly a million, and she was still treating him like he was invisible.

Clive felt his patience slipping. He popped a lotus seed into his mouth, only to get hit with the bitter taste from the core. He’d never liked anything bitter, and his frown deepened.

“Amelia, come sit with me!” Mrs. Salmeron called, all smiles, as she tugged Amelia down beside her.

Clive quietly separated some of the lotus seeds onto another little plate and slid it over to Amelia.

Amelia acted like she didn’t even notice.

But Mrs. Salmeron saw everything, and her eyes sparkled with amusement.

Looks like her grandson was finally catching on. All those little nudges might actually be working.
