Karma Doesn’t Sleep: The Revenge Queen Rises novel Chapter 281

White slips of paper fluttered down like snow, but not even that icy scatter could match the chill hiding in Clive’s deceptively calm eyes.

“And do me a favor. Tell my dear Mrs. Salmeron that if she wants the house and the money, she can drop the innocent act. I’m tired of her pretending she’s some untouchable saint around me. As for the divorce…” He let out a low, cold laugh. “She can wait. The day I’m done with her is the day she’s out. Simple as that.”

Clive stood up and headed for the door. Just as he reached it, he paused for a beat.

“And Andrew, let’s make this the last time I see you acting as my wife’s lawyer.” He turned, shooting Andrew a smile that never reached his eyes. “Alson Creek isn’t Saltford. Bigger city, more people, more accidents. Watch your back, Andrew.”

Andrew just pushed his glasses up, expression unreadable. Saltford—that was his hometown. He’d left it behind a long time ago.

Once Clive was gone, Andrew took his time pulling a recorder from his pocket. Of all the people to threaten, Clive picked a criminal law attorney. Smart move.

He walked over to the window and calmly dialed a number. “Mr. Packman, I just met with Clive. It went about how I expected…”

Clive stormed into his office, ripping off his tie, his handsome face set in a deep freeze.

Right then, Klaus’s call came through again.

“Did that WestMed contract come in yet?” Klaus’s voice was sharp, his patience running thin.

“Almost,” Clive answered, bracing himself as he fired off a message to Kristen. Normally, she’d reply in seconds, but tonight her silence was deafening.

Klaus’s voice dropped even lower. “I don’t know which rival’s messing with us, but half the accounts I hired to defend you online just got banned. That video of you fighting? It’s trending again. I’m doing what I can to keep it down, but if this tanks the company stock, I can’t cover for you with the board.”

“Don’t worry, Dad. I’ll handle it.”

Clive hung up and called Kristen, but she sent him straight to voicemail. A text came in right after: [Clive, hang tight. I’ll come find you soon.]

Kristen sat in a coffee shop near Cloudcrest, phone facedown on the table after she replied.

She spotted Will as soon as he walked in and waved. “Over here!”

Will saw her, crossed the room, and slid into the seat across from her.
