Karma Doesn’t Sleep: The Revenge Queen Rises novel Chapter 335

Amelia had been talking with the kids a lot more these last few days. Timmy would usually fill her in on what he’d learned at school or hit her up with computer questions. Penny, on the other hand, sent her nothing but food pics.

Every meal, every snack—even the random treats—Penny would snap a photo and share it with her.

Amelia found herself looking forward to those little messages, secretly hoping Penny would send another one tonight.

She knew Penny was still attached to Kristen. After five years, it wasn’t like Penny could just cut ties overnight. Amelia didn’t expect her to—but she was determined to win back her place as Penny’s mom, little by little. She could already see the changes in Penny.

Penny had even stopped calling Kristen “Momma Kristen.” Now it was just “Mom.” That was a big deal.

Amelia tightened her grip around her phone, eyes fixed on the screen, waiting for the next message from Penny.

Meanwhile, at dinner, Penny wasn’t paying attention to her food at all. She pointed to the big aquarium in the restaurant, where bright fish darted back and forth. “Daddy, can I go look at the fish over there?”

Clive looked at her, a little surprised. “Don’t you want to eat first?”

Usually, Penny was the first one at the table to dig in, but tonight she was acting different. She pouted, “Just for three minutes? I’ll come right back, promise! There’s a super pretty fish in there.”

Clive couldn’t say no to her. “Alright, go ahead.”

Timmy was busy, completely focused on a tricky Sudoku puzzle, so he didn’t notice Penny slip away.

Penny hopped off her chair and skipped over to the aquarium all by herself.

Kristen took a sip of wine, watching Penny out of the corner of her eye. She noticed Penny still had her little purse with her.

But Penny wasn’t interested in the fish at all. She ducked behind the tank, pulled out her tiny phone, and scrolled through the pictures she’d just taken of dinner. She wanted to send them to her mom.

She could already guess what Amelia would say: Wow, so much yummy food! Make sure you eat lots, sweetie, but don’t eat too much, okay?

Penny pressed her lips together, holding back a giggle as she picked her favorite shot. Just then, a shadow fell across her.

She looked up—Kristen was standing right there, and Penny got such a shock she almost dropped her phone.

“A-Aunt Kristen,” she stammered, quickly hiding the phone behind her back.

“What are you doing back here, Penny?” Kristen’s voice was as gentle as ever, but Penny still felt a little scared.

“I…I wasn’t doing anything…” She couldn’t bring herself to say the truth.

Aunt Kristen really didn’t like it when she talked to her mom.
